B. The grout mixture sha(i have a permeability rate equal to or less than 1.0 x 10-7 <br />cm/sec (in fresh water) as determined by using the "Falling-Head" Nlethod" <br />(defined in fhe United States Army Corp. of Engineers' Civil Engineering Manua) <br />No. EM 1110-2-1906, "Laboratory Soils Testing") as recommended by the U.S: <br />Environmentai Protection Agency to insure proper sealing. <br />C. The bentonite grout used shall have a minimum manufacturers recommended <br />mixfure of 15% to 30% solids. Thermal conductivity of the hydrated mixture to be <br />a minimum of 0.38 btu/hr-ft-F. <br />PART 3 - EXECUTION <br />3.1 GEOTHERMAL LOOP HEAT EXGHANGER TEST BORE <br />A. The vertical hole of bore shall be clean (no permanent casing) and of sufficient <br />diameter to facilitate the insta(lation of the U-tube assembly. The bores shall be <br />backfl(ed with appropriate grout material to assure pipe contact, and shall not <br />contain large, sharp or jagged rocks or debris. <br />1. Bore hole to be 5 inch diameter by 300 feet deep. <br />2. Driller shall provide protection for vehicles, buildings and roads, adjacent to <br />work area, from debris, water, mud, etc., from drilling process. <br />3. Install U-bend pipe separator on vertical piping spaced at 10 foot intervals. <br />Separator to be "GeoClip" as manufactured by GBT, inc. <br />4. Drilfing process rnay be eifher "Fluid Rotary". or "Air Rotary" at the contractors <br />option. If air rotary drilfing is used, control all manner of dust caused by this <br />work. Comply with all pollufion contro( regulations of local governing <br />agencies. <br />5. Dril(ing rigs sha(f be ieveied to pravide a vertical bore hole. <br />6. Use temporary casings to support unstable soils. <br />B. Install piping in accordance with manufacturer's written instructions. The pipe <br />and pipe fi#tings must be joined using the socket or butt heat fusion process. No <br />other method is acceptable. <br />C. During installation, trash, soil and small animafs shall be kept out of the pipe. <br />Ends of the high density polyethylene pipe shall be taped or capped after testing <br />is complete. <br />-4-
