14.6 Any abuse of sick leave or the unjustified pattemed use of sick Ieave shall be just ' <br />a.?r <br />? and sufficient cause for discipline, includi.ng discharge, as may be determined by the Employer, <br />subj ect to the grievance and arbitration procedure. <br />14.7 All employees shall receive two (2) eight (8) hour days off, plus an additional four <br />(4) hours with pay, or the Employee may elect to receive twenty (20) hours pay for each six (6) <br />consecutive months of unused sick leave. Unused sick leave days eamed may be carried over, if <br />not taken within one (1) year of da.te of day earned, to the foilowing year, with a maximum of <br />five (5) days. <br />14.8 Accumulated unused sick leave time may be converted at the time of retirement or <br />death for all full-time bargaining unit members of the Police Department. The payment for all <br />those who qualify under this Section sha11 be based upon the rate of pay of the employee at the <br />time of his retirement or death, and payment shall amount to one-half (lh) of the unused <br />accumulated sick leave time, but in all instances, the maximum amount paid shall not exceed an <br />amou.n.t in excess of one thousand (1,000) hours acc.umulated unusEd sick time. <br />14.9 Emplayees may use up to fifteen (15) work days per year of earned and <br />accumulated sick leave if necessitated by illness in the employee's immediate family. However, <br />if an employee uses more than seven (7) sick work days per calendaz year for this purpose, the <br />employer may require that the employee provide a certificate frorn the "immediate family" <br />member`s doctor(s), expla.ining the need and purpose of the employee's absence.
