Ek.9
EM BAL R. SAINI, P.E.
Senior Civil Engineer
Page 2
? coordinating the design work among the various disciplines for prepa.ration of
_ construction documents and specifications, and for overall design consistency and
quality control.
? • Performed quality assurance and checked design calculations for ERI-113 -20. 53 : The
_ replacement structure over Veimilion River in Erie County, Ohio is a 3-span 105
meter long bridge. The superstructure is composed of steel plate girders with a
? reinforced concrete deck and safety pazapets. The integral abutments are supported
on piles and the bent type piers are on drilled shaft foundations. The project included
flood hazard evaluation and approach roadway design.Project Engineer:
? • Interstate Route 90 (Cleveland urban area) from West 160' Street to West 25"'
Street, approximately seven miles. This section consisted of a new limited access
highway with four lanes in each direction, including two reversible lanes which were
? eventually deleted from the construction, with five interchanges and 20 bridge
crossings. The project also included street closings, street relocations, frontage roads,
? and temporary runarounds. NIr. Saini was actively involved in the design of
geometrics, profiles and superelevations for the mainline from West 160th Street to
Berea Road, and of interchanges at Alger Road, West 159th Street and West 140th
Street. His responsibilities also included the relocation of Warren Road and the
widening of West 140th Street in the Cities of Cleveland and Lakewood. Earthwork
and roadway quantities were computed with the use of in-house computer programs.
? Project Manager for the inspection and rehabilitation oftwenty-seven (27) bridges on
? Interstate Route 90 in the Cleveland urban area for the Ohio Departmern of
Transportation District Twelve. The work included physical inspection, concrete
sounding, structural steel retrofit, expansion joint modification, providing safety guide
rails, sealing of concrete and installation of a new wearing course. The contract
drawings, specifications and construction cost estimates were prepared for bidding in
construction.
- ? Project Manager on Everson Arch Bridge for the West Virginia Depastment of
Transportation: The scope included design of replacement structure and the approach
roadway. The 4 span, 300 ft. long bridge superstructure consists of continuous
- composite curved steel stringers supporting a 30-foot wide reinforced concrete deck
with safety parapets. The three piers are "Tee" shaped, approximately 40 ft. ta11, with
spread footings bearing on rock. The north abutment is supported on 30" diameter
drilled caissons bearing on rock, and the south abutment uses spread footings bearing
on rock. This final bridge design was selected after studying several alternates with
different alignment, profile, superstructure and foundation design. Hydrologic and
- hydraulic analyses were performed for the selected structure and two of the feasible
alternates. Water surface profiles for various design flows were modeled using the
? computer program HEC-2.
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATION:
1971, Civil Engineering, State of Ohio
I
