Any firefighter who is sick or disabled for more than two (2) consecutive tours <br />of duty or forty (40) hour Employee who is sick or disabled for five (5) consecutive working days <br />may be required to secure and submit a physician's release certifying that they are fit to return to <br />work This release must be submitted to the Employee's Officer in Charge before the Employee <br />will be permitted to return to work. <br />14.8 Employees shall be permitted to contribute sick leave hours to a sick leave bank for use by any <br />Employee who has exhausted all of his own sick leave under the following conditions: <br />A. The Sick Leave bank shall have a maximum balance of fifteen hundred (1500) hours. <br />B. Employees that have suffered any illness or injury in the scope of their employment and have <br />exhausted the benefits of Article XVI or were not covered by the provisions of Article XVI <br />may draw from the sick leave bank after their own sick leave bank has been exhausted. <br />C. Employees that have suffered any illness or injury to themselves or their immediate family <br />outside of the scope of their employment may draw from the sick leave bank only after the <br />Employee has exhausted all of their own sick leave bank, vacation and holidays. <br />D. Any Employee that contributes sick leave hours to the sick leave bank shall not lose any sick <br />leave bonus as granted by section 14.2. <br />E. No Employee shall be permitted to contribute more then one hundred (100) hours during his <br />term of employment. <br />14.9 The Employer may require any Employee requesting paid sick leave to furnish substanriating <br />evidence or a statement from hislher attending physician certifying that absence &om work was <br />required due to one of the reasons set forth in 14.5. Such certification must be presented whenever <br />sick leave is requested for more than two (2) consecutive tours of duty for Employees who work <br />an average of 50.4 hours per week and for five (5) consecutive working days for Employees on a <br />forty (40) hour work week. <br />ARTICLE XV <br />LEAVE OF ABSENCE <br />15.1 Employees sha11 be enritled to take a personal leave of absence with the approval of the Fire Chief. <br />Any Ieave of absence for personal reasons shall not exceed a ninety day period. <br />15.2 An Employee wha is on Sick Leave, and has exhausted all accumulated Sick Leave, shall be <br />entitled to a siclmess leave of absence which shall not exceed ninety days from the date <br />accumulated Sick Leave was eachausted. <br />27 <br />
