In case of death of an employee, the unused <br />vacation leave shall be paid to tkze estate. <br />SECTION 6: (a) An employee may have the option of using a <br />personal day as a day of extended vacation, with prxor approval <br />of the Chief of Palice ar his desfgnee. <br />(b) P.n employee may have the optian of using ane <br />week of hxs vacatian in xncrements of less than one weeY.; for <br />example, one ar two days at a time. An employee wilZ give the <br />supervisar at least fortX-eight (48) hours, advance notice in <br />writing. zn an emergency situation verba]. Gommunication with the <br />supervisar is apprflpriate and may justify waiving advance <br />notifiaation. <br />ARTICLE 19: <br />BICK LEAVE <br />SECTION X: An employee who has completed his probatianary <br />period shall be cjcanted sick leave for per$onal illness or injury <br />as follows: <br />a) Paid sick leave shall be earned and aacumulated at the <br />rate of one and one-fourth {]. 1/4) days for each month; <br />b) Pay for sick ].eave shall be at the employee's straight <br />time houxXy rate (or porti4n thereaf if absent for less <br />tihan a fuXl day); <br />c) Tf an emp7.oyee is absent rn sick 2eave far maxe than <br />three (3) consecutive work days, the city shall require <br />the emplayee to present medicaZ evidence that the <br />empZayee was under a doctar's care and is able to return <br />to work.
