? <br />ARTICLE XIII <br />SICK LEAVE <br />1. Sick leave shall be accumulated in accordance <br />with Section 161.01 of the Codified Ordinance of the City of <br />North Olmsted. <br />2. In the event that a full-time sworn employee of <br />the North Olmsted Police Department should be injured while in <br />the line of duty due to a sudden and accidental occurrence, and <br />such injury has so incapacitated said member of the Police <br />Department that he is temporarily unable to work, then the <br />Director of Public Safety, after determining that said injury <br />is work-related and is of a temporary nature, may authorize <br />ninety (90) days sick leave. If after such ninety (90) day <br />sick leave period said employee is still temporarily <br />incapacitated, then the Director of Public Safety shall <br />recommend to Council whether or not to continue said salary. <br />Council shall forthwith review the matter and by majority vote <br />determine whether the employee shall continue to receive his <br />full salary during recuperation. <br />For the purpose of this paragraph, a sudden and <br />accidental injury shall include such incidents as an automobile <br />accident, assault and battery, gun shot wound and the like. It <br />shall not be considered as sudden and accidental if an injury <br />or incapacity results from lifting, slipping, tripping or <br />falling, heart failure or heart attack. <br />Any full-time employee of the Police Department who <br />qualifies for benefits under this Section shall be required to <br />pay over to the City any amount received from the Bureau of <br />-15-
