If after such ninety (90) day sick leave <br />period said employee is still temporarily incapacitated, then the Director <br />of Public Safety shall recommend to Council whether or not to continue <br />said salary. Council shall forthwith review the matter and, by majority <br />vote, determine whether the employee. shall continue to receive his full <br />salary during recuperation. <br />For the purpose of this paragraph, a sudden and accidental <br />injury shall include such incidents as an automobile accident, assault, <br />gun shot wound and the like. It shall not be considered as sudden and <br />accidental if an injury incapacity results from lifting, slipping, <br />tripping or falling, heart failure or heart attack. <br />i.! Any full-time employee of the Police Department who <br />qualifies for benefits under this Section shall be required to pay over to <br />the City any amount received from the Bureau of Workers Compensation as <br />supplemental wages. Further, if at any time the City determines, on the <br />basis of medical evidence, that employee is permanently disabled and will <br />no longer be able to carry on his duties, then the City may terminate <br />payments and insist that employee go on a pension program. <br />Any employee who qualifies for the benefits under this <br />Section shall not have his accumulated sick time reduced because of a <br />qualified accidental injury which occurred while in the line of duty. <br />3. All full-time sworn members of the Police Department <br />shall receive one (1) eight (8) hour day off, with pay, for each six (6) <br />consecutive months of unused sick leave, to be determined by the Chief of <br />_~ Police.
