Within one (1) year of date of day earned', to the <br />1 <br />following year, with a maximum of five (5) days. <br />4• Accumulated unused sick leave time may be converted at <br />the time of retirement or death for all full-time sworn members of the <br />Police Department. The payment for all those who qualify under this <br />Section shall be based upon th rate of pay of the employee at the time of <br />his retirement or death, and payment shall amount to one-half (1/2) of the <br />unused accumulated sick leave time, but in all instances the maximum <br />amount paid shall not exceed an amount in ezcess of seventy-five (?5) <br />accumulated unused sick days in 1987 and thereafter. <br />ARTICLE XIV <br />BEREAVEMENT LEAVE <br />Officers shall receive three (3) eight (8) hour days off, if <br />requested due to death in the immediate family. "Immediate Family," in <br />case of death, shall be interpreted as meaning the employee's spouse, <br />parents and children of the employee. <br />Above paragraph said time off shall not be counted against <br />employee's accumulated sick time or have sick time reduced. <br />ARTICLE XV <br />GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE <br />The purpose of this Grievance Procedure is to establish <br />effective machinery for the fair, expeditious and orderly adjustment of <br />grievances in the North Olmsted Police Department. Procedures are to be <br />liberally construed to avoid dismissal of a grievance on technical <br />grounds, and a reasonable effort shall be made to resolve a grievance as <br />quickly as possible, considering the grievance and authority of the <br />management representative. <br />-13- <br />
