7 <br />in each three (3) month period. If it believes that an employee <br />is developing an attendance problem, it will notify the employee <br />in writing that medical evidence will be required for absences of <br />three (3) days or less. j+Then an employee's record becomes <br />satisfactory, the requirement for such medical evidence for short <br />term absences will be removed, and the employee will be notified <br />in writing <br />13.6. Any abuse of sick leave or the unjustified patterned <br />use of sick leave shall be just and sufficient cause for <br />discipline, including discharge, as may be determined by the <br />Employer, subject to the grievance and arbitration procedure. <br />13.7. All employees shall receive one and one-half (1-1/2) <br />eight (8) hour days off, with pay, or the Employee may elect to <br />receive twelve (12) hours pay for each six (6) consecutive months <br />of unused sick leave. Unused sick leave days earned may be <br />carried over, if nor taken ~vithin one (1) year of date of day <br />earned, to the following year, with a maximum of five (5) days. <br />13.8. Accumulated unused sick leave time may be converted <br />at the time of retirement or death for all full-time sworn members <br />of the Police Department. The payment for all those who qualify <br />under this Section shall be based upon the rate of pay of the <br />employee at the time of his retirement or death, and payment shall <br />amount to one-half (1/2) of the unused accumulated sick leave <br />time, but in all instances, the maximum amount paid shall not <br />exceed an amount in excess of one hundred (100) accumulated unused <br />sick days in 1992, one hundred ten (110) accumulated unused sick <br />days in 1993, one hundred and twenty (120) accumulated unused sick <br />days in 1994. <br />(20) <br />
