a leave of absence without pay shall be granted to not more than three <br />(3) employees for a period of not in excess .of ten (10) days per <br />' year each (fifteen (15) days per year in which an employee attends <br />the convention of the International Union), for the purpose of <br />attending Union conventions or other Union activities which neces- <br />sitate a suspension of active employment. Additional absences for <br />Union business may be permitted as conditions permit having in mind <br />the volume of work. <br />36. Paid Sick Leave: An employee who has completed his pro- <br />bationary period shall be granted sick leave for personal illness <br />or injury as follows: <br />(a) Paid sick leave shall be earned and accumulated at <br />the rate of one and one-fourth (1-1/4) days for each <br />month; <br />(b) Pay for sick leave shall be at the employee's <br />straight time hourly rate (or portion thereof if <br />absent for less than a full day); <br />(c) If an employee is absent on sick leave for more <br />than three (3) consecutive work days, the City shall <br />require the employee to present medical evidence <br />that the employee was under a doctor's care and <br />is able to return to work.
