P <br />I <br />OPERATOR (Cont.) <br />,~. <br />Assists other operators and maintenance personnel in switching pumps, <br />transferring sludge; charging chemical hoppers and mixing chamber; clean- <br />ing and maintaining plant equipment and facilities. <br />Subject to 24-hour call during emergency situations. <br />Performs related work as required. <br />Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills <br />Some knowledge of the specific operations and service requirements <br />of the major items of pump and treatment plant. <br />Some knowledge of the fundamental processes involved in the pumping, <br />treatment, and disposal of wastewater. <br />Ability to inspect operating mechanical and electrical equipment; <br />to detect minor flaws and defects in its operation; and to effect appro- <br />priate remedial measures when necessary. <br />Ability to read meters and charts accurately and to maintain routine <br />records of shift operations. <br />Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. <br />Ability to make mathematical computations with speed and accuracy. <br />Ability to perform moderately heavy manual work. <br />Abi 1 i ty and wi 11 i ngnes~ to use a vari ety of special safety devices ; <br />such as, inhalators, safety belts, special gloves, and related safety equip- <br />ment. <br />Mechanical aptitude and good general intelligence. <br />Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships <br />with employees and the general public. <br />Desirable Experience and Training <br />Some experience in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and <br />electrical equipment; graduation from a standard high school or vocational <br />school preferably supplemented by the completion of approved course work <br />in wastewater treatment. Ability to obtain a Class I Operators Certifi- <br />cation as issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency. <br />°157- <br />
