JUNE 16, 1959 - PAGE 2.
The Service Director reported he had received a communication from Mr.
LeRoy H. Harris offering a triangular lot to the south of LeBern Drive
which fronts on Claque Road and ends at the first house on the south side
of LeBern Drive, as a playground area for the residents of LeBern Drive.
He would like to deed this lot to the City far playgound purposes and
also as an access to the ditch wYiich lies adjacent. The matter was
referred to the Municipal Properties Committee for consideration.
The Director inquired relative to the property on Whitethorne, and the
Solicitor stated he had received the deed for the Schier property today.
Resolution No. 2859 was introduced by Mr. Framer. A resolution authorizing
the Service Director to advertise for bids for a one-ton dump truck for the
Service Department and declaring an emergency. It was moved by hr. Kramer,
seconded by Mrs. Lynch, that the statutory rule be suspended and the
resolution be read immediately the second and third times and put on its
passage. The affirmative vote on said motion was as follows: Hinkel,
control program are being continued and the residents are voicing approval;
however, the Jaycees thought they would make a project of it, but has not
heard further.
The ~;ngineer reported two bonds were submitted by Olmsted Colony. The
amounts are adequate for the paving, grading, draining, curbing, and
sidewalks for Subdivision ~'2, Asplin and Cypress Drives. All improvements
will be in before requesting building permits and trenches backfilled
prior to paving; however, they request permission to wait until the end
of Summer, and these bonds are submitted to assure the City paving will
be in before the end of the construction season, and are also submitting
the bonds for approval of Council.
In regards to the paving of Maplehurst, Oakdale, and Westlawn, with an
8" base and 2" surface course, the Engineer stated there were two questions;
one is whether or not Mrs. Merker, McKenzie Park Corporation, can use the
$2U,000.UU cash bond posted with the City for the construction of paving,
and also whether the inspection moneys, roughly X600.00 can be drawn from
this bond. They will produce evidence of their financial situation.
The paving plans, formerly approved three years ago, had been redesigned
to conform to Olmsted Colony, and there is no difference in context as
approved previously; but, one correction, that being the width of sidewalk
to five feet instead of four feet. The estimate at that time was X9,000.00
for paving, and $11,000.00 for sidewalks, which is now approximately
~3,000.UO more, plus additional engineering. It was recommended additional
moneys be posted to protect the City, to get a reestimate on the whole cost
in detail and that our Engineer check and approve it. With sufficient
moneys on deposit, a portion could be rele aced within thirty days after
t}ie Engineers approval of the improvements, which would be done immediately
after paving. They had been given a completicn date for tYie paving of
Maplehurst, July 31st. It was moved by iv1r. t~Jilson, seconded by rir.
