Council Minutes 3-•17-70
-4r
The Safety Committee al:o forwarded to the Finance Comenittee the
fol'owing recomsnendations: 1) Increase in compensation for Police
Matron from $1.75 per hr. to $2.00 per hr.; 2) Increase in hourly
rate of Auxiliary Policeman from $2.15 per hr. to $2.50 per hr.
Mr. Prokasy called a Public Safety Committee meetine for Tuesday,
March 24th at 8:00 p.m., City Hall, with as maaq members of Council
who can attend, also Chie£ of Po3ice, Patrolman Biertnan and Maqor as
Safety Director. A study of traffi.c situation on BreTedan, Dav3d and
Ranchview, lights at becker and BerkShire, recommendations of Patrolman
Bierman in regard to schaol crossfngs will be under discussirm at this
meeting.
At this time the Clerk read the follaiing letter addressed to Members of
Council:
"We, the undersigned, members of the North Olmsted Police Denart-
ment would at this time iike to go on recoxd with memhers of Council,
that we are disappointed with the ciecision of the Finance Committee, to
recommend to council salary inereases for the Police Department, kncnwing
that their offer has not been accepted by the department. In Che
opinion of the Police Ne?votiating Cova3.ttee, the Fir,ance Coumittee by
making their proposal to Council at this time, have ended negotiations
and are telling us to accept their o£Eer whether we like the offer or
not. ?•?e feel that this has been the Finance Comraittee's feelings
through-out our negotiating.
In fairness ta aIl iae would like council to consider putting into
ordinance legislation authorizing an Arbitration Committee be formed
when an agreement cannot be made between the Finance Committee and the
Police Negotiating Committee. Enclased is a capy of the Ordinance naw
in effect in the CiCy of Lakewood, Ohio. This Ordinance allows for a
dis-interested party sit on the arbitration board.
The members of the Police Department wish it known that tae
neither condone nor anticipate any walk-out, or blue flu type of recouxse,
naw would tiae ever jeopardize the safety of the community and its
citizenry by such acts.
„ /s/ Members of Police Dept.
At this tirne Mr. Prokasy wanted a fact verified that at the beginaing
of negotiations the Finance Comnitte's original offer to the Police
Committee was Zotaer than the $9,750. figure which was subsequently
agreed Co by the Finance Corsmittee during these ne¢otiations. "Ar. Limnert
,airl this was correct.
People addressing Council:
Mr. Norman Musial, 5897 Forest Ridge Drive, stated the North Olmsted
Coummnity Council is hsUint the fourth annual Citi$en of the Year
Award Banquet to be held at North OImated Sentor Aigh School Auditorium
on April 23, 1970 at 6:45 p.m., and invi.ted evexyone Co attend.
