Council Minutes of 12-15-70 -3- <br />Mr. WesC, Chairman $tiiidi.+g, Ldniua cx ncveiopmeat. Comaaitt$e and Traaspor- <br />tation Committee reported the follawing: 1) Building, Zoaiug & Development <br />Committee had a public heariag on Decembex IOth an the Columbine proposed <br />rezoning. Approximately 18 people attended the meeting. As far as could <br />be d:•-I.?i-:.nined there was no outright appositian. Questions iu particular <br />perta3.ned to drainage - problem on drainage would have to be worked out. <br />Legislation wi21 come up far third reading at next Council meeting.; <br />2) Transportation Committee met aa December 8th and discussed finances <br />of Bus Department. Committee agreed and Wi11 ask for legislatian this <br />evening to raise the fares on the cash cu:tamers lOC, and on passee and <br />tokens 5q%, starting March lst, 1971. This will overcome the deficit we <br />have at the present time. Approx3mately one-half of the increase will <br />be used to pay for new buses. Mr. West pointed out if we do not get the <br />federal grant as requested and which hae been approved by all coordinating <br />agencies, we wili theu order buseB on our oura. With the federal grant <br />we can get 16 new buses - without it for the same amount of monay, we can <br />get 4. Part of increase will also be earmarked for raises for bus drivers. <br />LETTERS, COMMUNICATIONS: 11ie Cl.erk stated she was in receipt of another <br />pe$tion in oppositicrn to the propc>sed R Mart with 12$ signatures. This <br />makes a total of 550 signaturee on petitions already received. Also re- <br />ceived letters this evening which Council sha11 receive copies of. <br />Mr. Grady read the followiag peCition into minutes which petition taas <br />signed by residents of David Drive (16 signatures) <br />"We the residents of David Drive, North Olmsted, Ohio, <br />formally request the members of City Council to look into <br />the matter of putting atreet lighta on David Drive because <br />of a recent acci.dent on David Drive involving two young <br />children being hit by a car." <br />Mr. Grady explained accident happened last night; two young children - <br />5th and 6th grade age were hit by car - one is still in hospital. Street <br />is dark, construction going on now, ane side of street is ccradrnnimiums <br />and other side is reaidents. Want to recommend to praper Committee the <br />serious consideration of high volwne of traffic on the street. <br />Mr. Grady brought up the suhject again of a traffic light on Lorain Road <br />at either David & Lorain or Brendan & Lorain Roads which has not been <br />resolved to date. It was escplaiaed this matter is in the Transportation <br />Committee ar?d reconsnendation will be brought up soon. <br />At th3.s time Mr. West explained that his Committee nor Council has as yet <br />received anyChing on K Mart proposed rezoning. As far as he knaws, the <br />Engineer has not received anqthing back from the developer on drainage <br />and other items. Unti1 this is submitted to the Engiaeering Degartment <br />and they, in turn, advise the Building, Zoning & 1?evelopment CarmitCee that <br />plana are ready to be looked at, 1t wi11 not be considered. Regarding the <br />Embassy progosed rezoning, the plaris and drawings had been changed taking <br />out the lota between the praposod rezoning and Wellesley, buC Che ordinance <br />description had not been chamged due to an oversight. The ordinance has <br />since been changed and is back on second reading. There will be no vote <br />an the Enbasap proposQd rezcraing tonight.
