Council Minutes of 10-1-74
-4-
Mr. Wilamosky, Chairman Intro GovarQSsaital Relations S Legislation Committee,
reported Committee reviewed the prs+~ble of Ord. No. 74-112 which deals with
rubbish, autos, junk, etc. and the Co4ml.ttae decided at the meeting on Septer
26, 1974, to request the Law Department to reconstruct the prsabla of Ord. No.
74-112. Reconstruction is concluded and legislation is placed back on agenda for
second reading as amended.
Mrs. Sharpe, Chairman Public Safety, Flealth & Welfare Comertttea, reported Committee
reviewed application for a D-5 ~retit to 8sti1 J. Dlad and Red ! Inns of
America, Inc. 24001 Lorain Rd. att~l Caamtrtee lots no objections to this application;
2) also reviewed :pplicati.aet for Dover Center L+alpe, Inc., 27092 Lorain Rd. , for
a D-3 A, which is an exta~on of tine from 1:40 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. Committee has
no objections to this application.
3) Mrs. Sharpe read letter from Mrs. F. D. Tickle, 4634 Williamstown Drive,
addressed to Councilwoman Sharpe and Counci.lmaen Coggin, giving views on two
subjects - Brookpark Extension and Recreation Complex.
Mr. West, Chairman Transportation Comwittas, reported Committee stet on Septesber
23, 1974, and reviewed follotrittg: 1) went through in detail the bus lime's finances;
where we stand so far thru 8 months end xhat it looks like for the rest of the year.
Committee had previously said with the increase in diesel fuel costa and many other
costa, plus having to pay drivers overtime it certainly looked like we would haws
to increase the fares to overca~ta these added axpa~tses. However, the Manager of
the bus line shaved us how somt rues could be cut and hoe the scluedules could be
readjusted for the better utilisation of the drivers. As a result of this the
Committee is not going to rec sn increase in bus fares. Foals that ws will
have a slightly greater deficit that wl~t wa aanticipatad but feels it can be pared
down. Mr. West pointed out that we dial agree with Fairview that either the fares
should be raised which was done in Faixviaw, or else the City should pick up the
cost of school passes which the bus lino should not ba asked to bear the cast of.
That asounts to aepproximrttely $2fl,000 for North Oleestad; and we chose to let the
fares go up iu Fairview which only they wanted to do and for us to absorb the
$20,000 in North Opted. Committee will keep watching the finances. It looks
like the cost deficit will roan a little over that - have a good chance of getting
through the year. Com~tttee hopes the rates will not have to be raised, and will
keep watching the financees;
2) next item was rec ti.on fora "T" stop sign at Marion Rd. All of the
ComQi.ttee had visited this area and the Coamittee does not recommend a stop sign.
Committee has, however, written to all of the people who signed the petition asking
for a stop sign and explained Catmeittee's feelings an the matter and suggested if
they would like to discuss it further Committee would be happy to have a meeting
with them;
3) next item was a bus std at Burns & Butternut Ridge. Property awnar on corner
felt that the bus stop was attacting children to be around it which was a nuisance
and if we would remove the bus stop to discourage this congregation. This has been
done and will be tried for awhile and see what happens.
Mrs. Beringer stated regarding the motion to reconsider on Res. Na. 74-52 that there
was no necessity to have it on the agenda tonight. She had told Mr. Giessen she
would weigh the facts over the weekend and let him know on Monday what her decision
would be. Does not think it was right of him to want a commitment right then and
there.
Mrs. Beringer moved to remove Res. No. 74-52 from the Agenda, seconded by Mr.
~r~~~~ ,rte:
