Council Minutes of 7--19-77
-3-
and are awaiting further recom®endations: the Police have raque~sted sc~e type of
legislation in Which to enforce as there are many cars driving 3 or 4 blocks
at a time down the center lane;
4) the No Turn on Red Sign at Great Northern & Lorain which was put up for a 30
day temporary stay: Have had reasonably good c t on it being there:
Mr. Beaty moved to amend the Traffic Control Map to install a No Right Turn On Red
permanently at Great Northern Blvd. and Lorain Rd. motion seconded by Mrs. Sharpe.
Affirmative vote: Beaty, Boehmer, Fairfield, Beringer, Sharpe, Wilamosky. Motion
carried.
5) the intersection of Columbia Rd. & Brookpark Rd.: have a request from the Police
to possibly pave the berm for northbound traffic on Coluabia as it approaches
Brookpark to make a lane which would handle thru traffic and right turn traffic.
There is a berm that is being used sad the Police De~-rtmant has requested that it
be paved and make a temporary turn lane out of it until 1480 does coast thru and
see what effect it has on Colu~ia. The Committee recommends this and will have
to find out the cost involved;
6) discussed same problem at Glague ~ Lorain Rds. Mr. Beaty understands the south-
bound traffic has bees settled with the County and Committee is waiting €or a report
from the Safety Director on northbound traffic to see if there is enough area of
berm there that could be paved and m~ a right turn lane;
7) Ord. No. 77-132 and 77-133 are on second reading tonight and deals with raising
the salaries and wages of the bus line a~rployees. It is in accord with the arrange-
ment we have worked aut with RTA and goes along with same. This is to go into effect
August 1st and because of Council vacation will request suspension of rule requiring
three separate readings tonight. Mr. Beaty discussed a $500. longevity payment
which could be made to employees in Decaiber of this year. The bus drivers in the
RTA Syates in Gleveland are receiving it. 'Phis is not included in the legislation
and Mr. Beaty explained reasons why the Co~i.ttee does not recoawend adding it into
the ordinance: RTA made .this a ne~tiating matter - the drivers gays up their
social security in order to receive this longevity. The Committee did not feel
that our drivers had given this up.
Mrs. Beringer referred to Mr. Beaty's coament on the southbound lane at Claque and
working with the County: Mrs. SaYi~rger stated that is too far in the future and
it was agreed by the Service Director that we would try and put a t~aportry pavement
or berm there so that people could turn right. The County's proposal is far in the
future when 1480 is eventually ccro~leted and Claque Rd. is widened to four lanes.
For the City to enter into an agreement at this time would be far too costly and
requested the Safety Director to give his opinion an turning there - cars do pull
up now in ruts and turn and if asphalt could be put there it would be more feasible.
Mr. Beaty requested Safety Director Koharik to check both northbound and southbound
at that point.
Mr. Boehmer, Chairman antra Governmental Relations ~ Legislation Committee and
Public Safety, Health & Welfare Committee, reported Committee met and discussed
a D1 liquor permit application to Michael 3. Santosousso, dba Ssntos, 26351 Great
Northern Shopping Center. Cotimittae objects to this application because Santos
has not moved into the Shopping Center and Committee feels they should actually
take over the building before a license is issued:
Mr. Boehmer moved Council object to the application for a D1 permit to Michael J.
Santosousso, dba Santos, 26361 Great Northern Shopping Center, seconded by Mr.
Fairfield. Affirmative vote: Beaty, Boehmer, Fairfield, Beringer, Sharpe, wilamosky.
Motion carried.
