Council Minutes of 6-v°-77 -4" <br />Mr. West, Chairman Bnvironmeatal Control Committee„--re~ps~i-.Cas~~aittse met on <br />May 23rd acid discussed the requdest by the Service Director for $3,000. for a new <br />Pump and parts and Commitaee has agreed aa~ will re+giuast legislation for same. <br />2) as Council Representative on the Recrestiai Ctiasion, Mr. West stated he would <br />like to comment, as Mr. Fairfield has, on A21 Scouts Day activitiy regarding one <br />particular phase - that was that the young people wk~ participated in it had asked <br />and thought it was a good idea that there be a teen advisory board for the R,acreation <br />Center and they would like to have so~os input. Understand from the Safety Director <br />that this has been under considetaticm by him and Mr. Brander. In view of the fact <br />these particular people are anzious to participate and mentioned it se~ral times <br />after the mock Council Meeting, woaiclered if Council s}~ould gees a rawlution this <br />evening recommending that an advisory board Made up of teenagers be established <br />for the Recreation Center and to make recaae~idations and suggestions as to how <br />we can improve on the Rec Center and to make these recomcrcada~ao~is to the r <br />of the Recreation Center, as well as to .the Recreation Commission aa~ to Council. <br />Mr. West moved Council go on record as favoring an advisory board to the Recreation <br />Center made up of teenagers and that those young people who partei iti A11 <br />Scouts Day and expressed strong interest in this be asked to serve ~ this board <br />as at least part of the Board. lotion seconded by Mr. Fairfield. Aff3rmtttive vote: <br />Beaty, Boehmer, Fairfield, Beringer, Sharpe, West, Wilamosky. Motion carried. <br />Mr. West stated he would like to add ore other thing: in view of the bad publicity <br />which North Olmsted received as a result of drug abuse cases where there were just <br />seven students involved, it is a sad coaMUsntary maybe on our society or news smdia <br />of whatver it is that we received all of that publicity; but we had Ali Scouts Day <br />with 30 or 40 fine young people participating in mock government and showing what <br />they can do, plus the Jaycees had a tr~c meet with many fine people out to it, and <br />in both cases the press was invited said no one showed up: it is really sad - they <br />are looking for how bad are we acid not really what good is being done. <br />1~~. Fairfield submitted to Mr. West a l~.~t for trees from Forest Laurel Woods which <br />t-~ deceived. Copy of letter also sent ~o $exvice Dept. Mr. Fairfield and Mr. West <br />d~.scussed the program in Fall for cos~l~ite tree replacements in the City. Forest <br />Ridge has also contacted Mr. West and they ale going to submit a list., Mrs. <br />Beringer asked if it might not be a good idea to have the Service Dept. check all <br />of the streets to make sure ~.f they are going. to complete the progararm that they do <br />not miss someone. Mr. West stated the Service Dept. has been asked to do this but <br />he is encouraging all of the subdivisions to submit a list also in case the Service <br />Dept. miss some. <br />People addressing Council: <br />Mr. John Davis, 5107 Berkshire Drive, submitted to Council a petition to pass <br />Ord. No. 77-56 for stop sign at Alden Drive and Berkshire Drive: at least 50 <br />signatures and with the exception of one all are Berkshire Drive residents. <br />Mr. West referred to petition received by Council two meetings ago with 44 signatures <br />opposing the stop sign and thinks it would be well advised that the Transportation <br />Committee reconsider this. Mr. Beaty stated he was aware of this petition tonight <br />and it is his intention to request that Ord. No. 77-56 be placed back into Coasnittee <br />and ask the Safety Director for a traffic count and rec elation from the Police <br />Dept. before we go on with this. Mr. Fairfield stated he objects to that: it is <br />on third reading tonight; there have been two petitions submitted: thinks we can <br />
