' Council Minutes of 10/16/84
-5-
Mr. O'Grady reported that he .had received a number of inquiries from residents
on West 231st Street regarding the installation of a new strip shopping center on
the corner of Lorain and West 231st Street. Asked City Engineer Schaller if the
flow test had been made. City Engineer replied that the tests were still underway;
results are not yet concluded; will advise as soon as they are completed.
Mrs. Saringer discussed the sewers in the Woodscape area. It is the City's re-
sponsibility to see the sewers are in good condition so the area can be developed.
Mrs. Petrigac reported on an article in the Chronicle with respect to Ward Five in
Fairview Park and asked the Mayor to explain the sentance "North Olmsted, however,
failed to file for the funds on time". Mayor replied he had no idea what this re-
ferred to; City of North Olmsted filed everything on time. If North Olmsted had
not filed on time, it would not have received the grant. Service Director also
stated that the filings were not delayed. Mr. Wilamosky commented that there was
a piece of legislation that was not passed under suspension of rule requiring three
readings and this did take the City off the fast track and put a little crimp. in
the overall proposal but it did not. prevent the City from meeting the deadline.
Mr. Wilamosky stated that some controls should be implemented that don't provide
for flexibility and do set up standards with respect to employees who drive city
vehicles home. Would encourage Council to review legislation that he introduced
two or three years ago.
Mr. Wilamosky also reported on a leak at the corner of Hastings which has not been
repaired even though it has been leaking for a period of six months to a year. The
Cleveland Water Department has not been responsive. Is primarily concerned with
possible undermining of the sidewalk and street. Director Corrigan advised that he
was aware of this leak; discussed it with John Muller, who is taking a water sample
to see if it contains chlorine. Cleveland Water Department feels it is some kind
of ground water seepage; Service Department feels it is a water leak; test sample
should prove where it is coming from.
President Boehmer praised the work done by the Service Department in clearing the
area behind the North Olmsted Park and in front of the lumber company.
Mr. Tallon scheduled a BZD Committee Meeting for Thursday, October 25th at 7:30 P.M.
Mrs. Petrigac scheduled a Recreation Committee Meeting at 7:00 P.M. and Council
Chamber Committee Meeting immediately following the Council as a Whole Committee
Meeting on Monday, October 22nd.
President Boehmer scheduled a Council as a Whole Committee Meeting for Monday,
October 22nd at 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Bierman reported that the BFI landfill in Russia Township might not have been
approved. What effect would this have on North Olmsted. -Mayor replied that the
City has three years service with BFI under the existing contract. Does not know
if the Russia Township landfill was approved or not. Service Director Corrigan
stated that he has discussed this with BFI. They are winding down at the Russia
Township landfill; will probably run out of space there around April 1st of next
year. The present landfill is on the east land. BFI is meeting all the requirements
and report they are confident that the expanded landfill, supposedly good for fifteen
years, will be approved by EPA. There will be no omission of services for the City
of North Olmsted.
