Chairman Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee as well as
Transportation Committee reported: 1) The Transportation Committee met on May 7th
with all members present as well as Councilmen O'Grady, Wilamosky, Saringer, Council
President Boehmer, Lt. Herrmann, Captain Gettins, Fire Chief Van Kuren and Safety
Director Petre. Committee discussed the ten year old, 1974 Pontiac Catalina the
Fire Department has requested be replaced. Car is primarily used by the Assistant
Fire Chief and the Fire Prevention Officer. It is used on emergency runs and to
inspect properties for compliance with fire laws. The car was inoperable at least
fifteen times within the last year; is becoming quite costly to repair. Committee
also discussed the 1976 Pontiac Ventura that has been in for repairs seven times
within the last year. Committee feels both cars should be replaced, however it is
apparent that the monies are not available for both. Committee recommends that
Council find the money within the budget to replace the 1974 Pontiac with a medium-
sized mini van which can carry all the equipment needed for the Fire Prevention
Officer and that funds be made available in next year's budget to replace the
1976 Pontiac Ventura.
2) Committee discussed a ~~ regarding the lack of availability of the Service De-
partment dump truck for use by the Recreation Department. Since the memo was sent,
Mr. Gorsuch and Mr. Couts have been able to work out a solution. Parts will be
purchased from a junk yard to rebuild a part of the body of the dump truck; a cab
will be purchased and the rotting floor boards will be fixed; the entire truck will
be reconditioned.
3) Committee again discussed the rear of North Olmsted Park which is looking worse
each week instead of improving as promised. Service Director stated that street
repairs at this time of year are the number one priority and men cannot be pulled
off this task to clean up the park. Mrs. Petrigac has received calls about a white
van which is carrying away the wood and various building parts of the structure
that is being torn down. Mayor Swietyniowski had promised that the buildings would
be torn down a month ago. Will discuss further under old business.
4) Mr. Logan presented a proposal for the Memorial Garden at the Park. The cost
would be approximately $4,300 - a little bit higher than planned. Mrs. Petrigac's
suggestion that the sum of $1,500 be incorporated in the recommendations for CDBG
money was not favorably received. Committee is hoping to carry out plans for the
Memorial Garden in phases and will continue to discuss this project.
5) Reminded the Mayor that there is a vacancy on the Landmarks Commission; is aware
that a resume for a person to fill this vacancy was given to the Mayor a number of
weeks ago. Mayor Swietyniowski said he only received the resume this week.
Mr. Wilamosky, Chairman Finance Committee as well as Streets and Drainage Committee
reported: 1) The Finance Committee met on May 14th. In addition to the committee
members in attendance, Mrs. Petrigac, President Boehmer, Director Corrigan,
Mr. Gorsuch, Mayor Swietyniowski and Director Boyle were also present. Committee dis-
cussed the balance of appropriations. A few areas need some internal adjustment.
Some line items were miscoded. Deficits are appearing in other line items. Will
be submitting legislation with transfer recommendations on these deficit items. In
the future, all PO's and requisitions that show insufficient funds in the balance of
appropriations will be returned to the requesting party. Communication will be sent
