Council Minutes of 10/1/85 -2-
Mr. O'Grady, Chairman Public Safety, Health and Welfare Committee reported:
• 1) Safety Committee met Monday, September 23rd with Public Works Commissioner
Gorsuch, Safety Director Petre, Councilwoman Petrigac and Councilman O'Grady
in attendance. Mrs. Petrigac had requested legislation prohibiting large
trucks, over five tons, from using East Park. In checking into this, it was
found that such trucks are already prohibited. Mr. O'Grady feels this is an
obvious request to prohibit Halleen Chevrolet from pulling their trucks in on
East Park and coming into the lot. Discussion with the Law Director elicited
the information that Mr. Gareau feels it is legal for them to use East Park
to drive into their business and no legislation can prohibit this.
2) Mrs. Saringer requested the Safety Committee to prohibit parking on•the west
side of East Park from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M. This request came from the Recreation
Commission. Safety Director Petre stated he had four options that he would
like to include: "no parking any t"; "no parking from 7 A.M. to 5 P.M.";
"parking for recreational purposes only"; "two hour parking". The latter two
would be very difficult to enforce. Since this parking area is actually never
used during the day, it is an obvious attempt to prohibit the employees of Halleen
Chevrolet from utilizing the area. The one comment that rea ly made sense was
that sometimes the parking does interfere with grass cutting. Mr. O'Grady contacted
the Sales Manager, Mr. Simino, who assured him that any time.. they were asked to
move their units, they moved them immediately. Halleen Chevrolet has operated a
business in North Olmsted for many years and has always been an asset to the
community. Mr. O'Grady, as Chairman of the Safety Committee is against any changes
in the parking on East Park; Mrs. Petrigac is in favor of prohibiting parking from
7 A.M. to 5 P.M., Monday through Friday.
3) Committee reviewed a request from City Engineer to consider opening a section
of the fence east of Burns Road for the installation of a walk in order to possibly
eliminate the bike path crossing at Southern where a non-conforming stop sign is
now erected. .Committee unanimously approves this request.
4) Reminded everyone that the Safety Fair, sponsored by the PTA, will be held this
Sunday at Horizons, 30395 Lorain Road, from 1 to 5 P.M.
5) Moved Council have no objection to the transfer of a D1, D2, D3, D3A and D6
liquor permit from Howard Johnson Company, dba Ground Round, 24250 Lorain Road,
North Olmsted, Ohio, to Ground Round, Incorporated, 24250 Lorain Road, North Olmsted,
Ohio, second by Mrs. Saringer, unanimously approved.
6) Moved Council have no objection to the transfer of a D5 liquor permit from
Rupert Enterprises, Incorporated, dba Redwood Inn, 25905 Lorain Road, North Olmsted,
Ohio, to Robert L. Stark, 25905 Lorain Road, North Olmsted, .Ohio, second by
Mrs. Saringer, unanimously approved.
