Council Minutes of 12/2/86
-9 -
that at the Safety Committee Meeting on September 4th, committee discussed a
June 14th letter from Captain Don Herrmann regarding vehicle maintenance as
well as an April 11th letter from Chief VanKuren to the Mayor regarding equip-
ment, particularly radio equipment. Chief VanKuren's letter of August 12th
was mentioned at this meeting but it certainly was not brought to the attention
of the Safety Committee that the administration had any intention of closing
Fire Station No. 2 at any time. That letter was eventually given to the Safety
Committee by Mr. Becker on September 15th. Wants to clarify that the Safety
Committee was not aware of any intention to close Fire Station No. 2.
Mayor Petrigac read a letter from the Superintendent of the North Olmsted
Board of Education concerning the funding of school crossing guards; Board of
Education unanimously voted to deny the city's request for payment, or shared
payment, for the School Guard Crossing Program. Copies of this letter have
been forwarded to council.
Mr. Rademaker asked if any consideration had been given for another Risk
Management Meeting, on the question of self-insurance, since budget items are
now being discussed. Mr. Wilamosky advised that a meeting will be scheduled
within the next couple of weeks.
Mr. Lackey, with respect to the school crossing guard issue, asked if the
number of hours the guards were on duty could be lowered to two hours instead
of the current four hours. Would hope that the administration, Safety Department,
as well as council and the Safety Committee members could sit down and look at
some worthwhile recommendations, keeping paramount the safety of the students.
President Saringer requested the Safety Committee Chairman to take this issue
into committee.
President Saringer also noted that a final draft of the Transportation Study had
been given to each councilman.; would hope that legislation would be presented
after a careful perusal of the study.
Mayor Petrigac announced that Lyn, Dave, Mary Ann and Amy Smith, children of
Mary Smith, Director of Horizons, have received the Governor's Youth Award in
Columbus.
Mr. Lackey noted that the Mayor had mentioned the annexation of Olmsted Township
in her report this evening; this is the first he has heard about it other than
what has been written in the papers. Would hope that council would be kept
abreast of any actions being taken; what the Mayor would like to accomplish;
benefits to .the City of North Olmsted, etc., without having to be informed through
the press. Mayor responded that the administration is in the process of research-
ing what this would mean to North Olmsted and what procedures must be followed
in annexation. Wi11 be meeting with the two major land owners, as mentioned in
this evening's report, and will continue to keep council advised.
President Saringer reminded council that an executive session of Council of the
Whole Committee would take place immediately following tonight's council meeting.
The agenda being completed and there being no further business, President Saringer
adjourned the Council Meeting at 10 P.M.
Florence E.
