Council Minutes of 7/21/87 -3-
President Saringer asked that Mr. Wilamosky also mention in his report that she
did bring to the committee's attention something she wanted discussed in regard
to Ordinance No. 87-53. Mr. Wilamosky reported that President Saringer did ex-
press some concern with respect to three wage items in that ordinance - those
being the wages for the Police Chief, Fire Chief and Assistant Fire Chief -
feeling that their raise should be the same percentage as other individuals in the
bargaining unit. Committee feels that these individuals are not members of the
bargaining unit and should be treated as fairly and as equitably as other ad-
ministrative personnel; they are administrative personnel, not bargaining member
employees. Other administrative personnel were considered for a 4.75 increase and
these three individuals should not be discriminated against because they happen to
be in the Police or Fire Departments.
Mr. Lackey, Chairman Recreation, Public Parks and Buildings Committee reported:
1) The recent heavy rains have again caused leaks to the Rec Complex roof and this
has necessitated some minor patching.
2) This Sunday, at 7 o'clock, the Concert in the Park Series will be concluded.
Extends appreciation to the Recreation Department, Community Council and Kiwanis for
helping to finance the program.
3) Saturday, August 1st, at North Olmsted Park, Whamo is sponsoring a Frisbee/
Hackeysack Festival, from 12 noon to 5 P.M.
4) Would like to express appreciation to the Junior Women, Jaycees and Town Club
for contributing $2,250 toward the new kiddy equipment in the Park.
5) Work is currently being done at Clague Park - painting equipment, installation
of parking posts, etc. - as well as at Barton Woods.
6) Landmarks Commission met last July 7th and presented two plaques to area residents;
work for the signs designating the Historic District along Butternut Ridge Road
should be completed within the next two weeks.
Letters and Communications:
Clerk of Council expressed her appreciation to Finance Director Boyle and Finance
Clerk Linda Spencer who handled her duties while she was on a well deserved
vacation.
President Saringer announced receipt of a letter from the Chairman of the PUCO,
thanking council for the recently passed resolution relative to the Perry Nuclear
Power Plant. Also, received a letter from Mary Boyle, Commissioner, thanking
council for its support of the Economic Excess Capacity Rate Study pertaining to
CEI's current proposed rate increase. Advised that council has received copies
of a disclosure statement with respect to the proposed Ohio Municipal League Joint
Self-Insurance Pool. Copy is also on file in the Clerk of Council's office for
public inspection.
Audience participation:
Don Sachs, 6040 Wild Oak Dirve, Timber Trails, complained of heavy flooding in
his area and .presented pictures of the over-flowing street and front yard
area. The administration has been very helpful with advice that has eased the
situation somewhat but he would like something permanently done to alleviate
the flooding.
Terry Shade, 6051 Brook Circle, also complained about flooding in the same area
as Mr. Sachs and also presented pictures depicting the flooding of the ditch
in the soccer field area. Feels .this is a dangerous safety hazard for the
youngsters who play along the ditches. They are five feet deep, completely
flood and overflow the surrounding property about seven or eight feet. If the
city does go to the expense of straightening out the ditch, hopes they do the
job completely the first time and not just clean it out.
