Council Minutes of 11/1/88 -7-
Bob Brookshire, 5140 Hampton Drive, stated that no one has answered the question
about where the money is to come from that is the city's,tresponsibility. Also,
feels Crocker Road Extension will probably be the worst hot spot in the city
when 16,000 cars are added on a four lane highway which funnels into a two lane,
soft-shouldered Stearns Road. Further, objected to the response Law Director
Gareau made to Mr. Frick at the council meeting of September 20th. Would
like the council and administration to remember that the constitution is "of",
"by" and "for" the people. The people elected them and if the people put them
"in", they could also put them "out". Does not think they are all bad but
better representation of the people has to be given.
Sally Sayers, 4256 Porter Road, commented on the Tree City Award. As a child,
her entire family spent every Sunday having a picnic on Lansing Drive where
it deadended in a beautiful apple orchard. There were many more trees then but
with the growth and natural development. of the City, more and more trees were
lost. Many commercial businesses have developed; many residential properties
have been built. The new road is needed because of this development and the
burden of so much more traffic. Does not feel that the trees lost by the
development of the new road will hurt that much more nor will the pollution be
as bad as some people think.
Chester Chrostowski, 4722 Porter Road, stated that in his 32 years of residency,
the city has cut down almost every tree on his street because of the damage done
by traffic pollution. Porter Road has had more pollution than anyone else is
complaining about because Porter is such a narrow street.
Mr. Reis again addressed council and suggested that someone call the Greater
Cleveland Ecology Association, 631-1890, to find out how much it will cost to
have contractors come out and pick up the city's leaves. This association is
currently taking care of Fairview Park, Lakewood and Parma.
LEGISLATION:
Ordinance No. 88-75 introduced by Mr. Tallon was given its third reading. An
ordinance creating new Chapter 1141 of the North Olmsted Zoning Code entitled,
"Office Building District", as amended.. Mr. Tallon moved for adoption, second
by Mr. Wilamosky, unanimously approved.
