Council Minutes of 6/21/88
-5-
.Audience participation (con'd):
Bob Brookshire, 5140 Hampton Drive, also addressed the Crocker/Stearns Extension;
feels there are too many questions going unanswered as to the total cost of the
project and who is going to pay for it. Asked Finance Director for a copy of
the 1987 estimate of the 1988 budget. Councilman Tallon advised that the City's
portion of the cost, as of 1986, was $702,000 and that was with no participation
by the county; if there is no federal funding, there is no project; it will not
be done.
Roy Garland, 4576 Camellia, recently had the opportunity of reading the entire
Transportation Study; believes that some committees of council should have been
doing some work over the last eighteen months to get some of this material going.
Living on Camellia, which is off of Porter Road, he can appreciate the problems
with the traffic. Wonders if the residents are aware that Porter Road will be
closed anywhere from three to six months for a water project; asked if there was
a length of time and a date scheduled. Mayor Petrigac replied that the city will
be going out for bids some time this month; traffic will probably be single lane
only towards the end of this year or the first part of next year. Mr. Garland
commented that there will be no immediate relief for the traffic problems since
the Crocker/Bassett Extension will take from six to ten years to complete. Is
in favor of the extension; would personally circulate a petition to get it on
the ballot; city needs better north/south traffic.
