Public Hearing of 11/7/90
Page 2
Audience Partici tion (continued):
Kevin Mac Lean, arcs 're, who has just moved into the City,
feels that there is already enough traffic on Columbia Road.
John Maloney, 24782 Arlington Lane, recommended. to Council that they
decline the change of Single Residence A to Mixed Use. He feels the
taxpayers are facing a terrific burden in regard to traffic, police and
fire services, and safety. He also feels that further commercial
development will put a strain on the sewer plant and additional funding
will be needed to maintain EPA standards. ~ asked Council to be aware
of the tax burden of the residents and that many retired people cannot
afford increased taxes.
Julie Montilla, 24625 Clareshire, 4103, helped to gather signatures an
the petitions. She was amazed at how disgusted the residents of this
City are with this random, rampant commercialism. People were very
willing to sign the petition because they are tired of the traffic
problem in our City. Also, on a personal note, she does not relish the
idea of looking out her windows at a 20-story building where she now can
see the beauty of nature. She was very pleased to be able to vote on
the issue of a master plan. Ms. Montilla reminded Council that 65~ of
the taxes gathered come from residents; business people who come in
during the day and use our services are not supporting that tax base.
James Lamneck, 4989 Colwnbia Road, lives diagonally across the street
from this property. He does not like the idea of having to look out his
front yard and see a high-rise office building. He also mentioned the
traffic is already very bad during the morning and evening rush hours.
He purchased his home nine years ago because the area was zoned
Residential and he felt it would be very secure. He feels the
commercialism maust be stopped before the entire City is taken over. He
asked Council to please vote against this rezoning.
Sharon Senal, 5187 Columbia Road, is very concerned about the traffic
problem that already exists in this area. She moved here four years ago
from Cleveland to enjoy suburbia; she feels continued commercialism will
pressure her family to move again. As the mother of six children, she
would like them to be able to enjoy nature and not be crowded by
businesses.
Jeff Krejci, 5174 Columbia Road, has lived his entire life in North
Olmsted but is plarniing to move out as quickly as possible. He has
watched the continued ccxnmercialism of North Olmsted and bitterly
resents this encroachment by business. He feels the land could be
better used as residential property--something that the City could be
proud. of developing for. its residents. He strongly suggested that
Council Members search their consciences and listen to what the people
are saying. Council Members are the representatives of the people; the
people are the law.
