Council Minutes of 9/18/90 <br />2) The Safety Committee met an September 11 with all members in <br />attendance as well as Councilwoman Saringer, Mayor Boyle, Safety <br />Director Gundy, Chief of Police Sefcek, Fire Chief Vankuren. The <br />following items were discussed: <br />(a) A request from the Mayor to increase the forces of the Police <br />and Fire Departments by three people each in 1991. The addition of <br />personnel will be contingent upon the passage of the income tax <br />increase. Also, the additional rank of Lieutenant to supervise the <br />Detective Bureau is being requested. No additional personnel will be <br />needed; total cost is $3,200. The Committee approved the requests <br />unanimously. <br />(b) A resident requested a "Stop here on Red" sign at the <br />intersection of Carriage Lane and Clague Road for the Maple Ridge <br />traffic signal. All concerned voted that this proposal would create a <br />serious stacking problem on Clague Road and the request was unanimously <br />denied. <br />(c) The Chief of Police and the City Prosecutor strongly urged the <br />Committee to approve Columbia Road, between Brookpark and Lorain Roads, <br />as a truck route because of the safety problems created by re-routing <br />truck traffic on Brookpark to Great Northern, back to Lorain and back <br />down Rt. 252. Safety Committee, after much discussion, voted to approve <br />this proposal; Ordinance 90-127 is on first reading tonight. <br />(d) The Police Dept. requested a transfer of appropriations from <br />Police Wages to Overtime, Uniforms, Dispatcher Wages, and Equipment <br />Purchases. The Fire Dept. requested a transfer of appropriations from <br />the Hazardous Material Team to Station Maintenance, Miscellaneous <br />Requests, Equipment Purchases, and Equipment Repair. The Committee <br />unanimously approved arxi referred the proposals to Finance Committee. <br />Ordinance No. 90-131 is on first reading tonight and will be passed <br />under suspension of the rules. <br />(e) A school zone, including a $5,000 flashing signal, will be <br />established for Abundant Living Christian School, 3874 Columbia Road. <br />The Committee unanimously approved and referred to Finance Committee for <br />funding. <br />Mr. Nashar, Chairman of Streets and Drainage Committee reported: 1) <br />During the past few months, the city has repaved 12 residential streets; <br />the majority of work has been done by in-house personnel. <br />2) The Service Dept. is involved in the on-going project of cleaning <br />storm drains and ditches, which has helped reduce flooding. <br />3) A new culvert ditch was installed on Barton and Bradley; estimated <br />cost approximately $70,000. <br />4) New vehicles for snowplowing have been purchased. <br />Mr. Tallon, Chairman of Finance Committee reported: 1) The Finance <br />Committee met on September 12 with all members in attendance as well as <br />Mr. Wilamosky, Mr. Bohlman, and Mr. Burns.
