Council Minutes of 1/15/91
Mrs. Babas announced that the following ordinances would be added to the
agenda: 91-8, 91-9, 91-10, 91-11, 91-12, 91-13, 91-14.
Mayor Boyle reported: 1) CEI is in the process of repairing street
lights within the City. Please contact Service Director Bohlmarm to
report any non-functioning lights.
2) Avery successful Open House was held at the Rec Center this past
Sunday. Approximately 1,500 people attended and participated in swinming,
skating, tennis, and gymnastics. The newly renovated Rec Center is clean
and bright; it is certainly a place where all residents, adults and
children, will want to go and. recreate.
3) The State of Ohio has advised us that approximately $118,000 in
unclaimed funds is owed to North Olmsted residents. We will be attempting
to contact these residents to advise them about these funds.
4) The Animal Protective League has put us on notice that they will no
longer receive stray cats.
5) Today the City of North Olmsted was awarded $3,860,100 in grants:
$270,00 for the repair and reconstruction of Elm Road; $1,718,100 for
continuation of the sanitary sewer rehab program; $1,872,000 for Country
Club Boulevard. The County has awarded the City 90~ of the money to
reconstruct Country Club Boulevard, which will also include Victoria Lane
and a portion of Kennedy Ridgy: Road. Our lOX portion was already granted
by Council last year when $200,000 was allotted to pay for the
engineering. We anticipate getting the pracess moving very quickly;
legislation is before Council this evening authorizing us to go out on
bids. The Great Northern Boulevard project, which is now before the
State, will likely be a 1992 project and not interfere with Country Club.
We have had a good deal of help on this project--initially from Council
for believing in us enough to hire the engineers and funding the $200,000
cost. We would also like to thank the following members of the District
One Fublic Works Integrating Committee for all of their help: County
Commissioner Mary Boyle, Julius Ci.accia, William Denihan, Mayor Walter
Ehrnfelt of Strongsville, Mayor David Lynch of Euclid, County Engineer Tom
Neff, and Carlton Schnell. Thanks also to State Representative Frank
Mahnic for his endorsement of this project.
The receipt of this Issue 2 money puts. to rest the question of assessing
Country Club Boulevard residents. By receiving three grants, North
Olmsted did very well in relation to other cities in the County. The
Engineering Department, Service Director Bohlmann, and Personnel and
Administrative Director Wilmmosky deserve thanks for all their efforts.
Our Engineering Department did an in-house review of all engineering
studies; Mr. Bohlmaim supplie<3 video tape ar~d other information; Mr.
Wilamosky prepared in-depth applications which impressed the selection
committee and was a major contributing factor to the receipt of these
grants .
Mrs. Babas, on behalf of Council, expressed thanks and appreciation to
everyone involved in this effort.

2
M,~.,~.~~ : __
