Council Minutes of 10/20/92
3) The County Plaiming Cofmii.ssion met on October 13. The following items were
discussed:
a. The County Commissioners have placed responsibility for Issue 2 with the
County Planning Commission.
b. Municipal leaf dumps. Sane municipalities are having problems with their
collection areas. However, North Olmsted has passed the EPA tests and is one of
the model cities being surveyed by the County Plam~ing Commission.
c. The County was tined down on a grant request which would have provided for
the use of recycled materials in the Gateway construction.
4) The Westshore Enforcement Bureau met on October 14 with jails being a major
discussion item. The State of Ohio has a program whereby counties can join
together to get funding for jails. Although the Westshore caununities constitute
a population greater than some ca®binations of counties, WEB has been refused
funding for a jail. As an alternative, the communities are caisidering opening a
misdemeanant jail. However, this will not alleviate the major problem of the
need for a felon jail. At present, felons are being held in the North Olmsted
City Jail because there is no cx~unty space available.
5) Along with the Law Director $nd Finance Director, met with representatives of
Squire, Sanders & Dempsey concerning the sharing of tax revenue with the North
Olmsted School System. Hopefully, legislation will be ready for the next Council
meeting. The Moen project will be the first corporation to be considered wider
this program.
6) The legal procedures involved with building senior housing were also discussed
with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey. Hopefully, we will be able to begin construction
of senior housing during the caning year.
7) The North Olmsted Community Improvement Corporation (CIC) met on October 15.
It was decided to appropriate funds for an economic development video tape which
can be presented to businesses wishing to expand or relocate in North Olmsted.
The video tape will not only highlight the attributes of North Olmsted but of
Cuyahoga County as well. CIC has hired Mr. Bud Becker to serve as a liaison
between the Administration arxi the film company.
8) This Saturday, October 24, there will be a Waik for a Drug Free America
sponsored by the Red Ribbon Campaign.
