Council Minutes of 10-OS-2010 <br /> <br />• Operation Medicine Cabinet held September 25, 2010 was once again a huge <br />success. <br />• The application deadline for entry-level patrol officers is October 13, 2010. The <br />written examination will take place at St. Clarence on Saturday, October 23, 2010. <br />• Congratulations to Al Herman, Foreman, for 35 years of service to North <br />Olmsted. <br />• The Planning Director and Safety Director met with URS to discuss the process <br />for submitting a grant application to seek funding to upgrade the city's traffic <br />signal system. <br />• The 2010 asphalt recycling and overlay projects are now complete. The city has <br />started the process of identifying roads that will be part of the 2011 roadway <br />project. <br />• The collection system and WWTP upgrades are continuing to move forward. He <br />will be meeting with Ohio EPA Division of Environmental Financial Assistance <br />later this week to discuss the project and potential funding possibilities. <br />• The Fleet Division is currently servicing the city's salt spreaders and plow trucks <br />in preparation for the winter season. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• Since last meeting, a motion to dismiss the Anthony Hawley case was made by <br />the Law Dept. The motion has been granted, and the case has been dismissed. <br />• The city has been named as a defendant in a new case Margaret Benning vs. the <br />Ciry of North Olmsted. <br />• A complaint has been filed in Rocky River Municipal Courts Small Claims <br />Division by James Doyle relating to a motor vehicle accident concerning one of <br />the city's snow plow trucks. This will be handled in-house to save insurance <br />litigation costs. <br />• There are a number of judgment liens for the City of North Olmsted over the past <br />ten years, most dealing with unpaid income tax. His staff has started to review <br />the dockets through Cuyahoga County to see which ones have never been paid. <br />• The city has prepared for filing a satisfaction of judgment arising from the action <br />The City of North Olmsted vs. IAFF 1267. This case was commenced back in <br />1995 in attempt to vacate or modify two arbitration awards concerning the North <br />Olmsted firefighters. The Common Pleas Court rejected the argument of the city <br />at that time and so did the Appellate Court of the 8th Appellate District. <br />Jurisdiction was requested in the Supreme Court, and was denied making the <br />original award final. The Administration has proceeded and paid on those claims <br />to the firefighters. They have been paid for their past due money and interest. <br />• There have been three sentences imposed on property maintenance cases. Total <br />fines were $14,200. There are nine cases currently in court being prosecuted and <br />additional cases waiting. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />2 <br /> <br />
