Council Minutes of 09-21-2010 <br />for the Special Olympics. Chick-fil-A held their annual Hometown Heroes event <br />on Tuesday, September 7, 2010. <br />• SERVICE -PSI was recently in the areas of Carla, Hawkins and the Dover lift <br />station performing soil borings work for the WWTP project. The overlay project <br />is nearly complete and pavement markings have begun. Brush pick-up has <br />concluded for the year. Bundled brush cut to 4 foot lengths weighing no more <br />than 45 pounds should be placed at the curb for trash collections. <br />• HUMAN RESOURCES -The Human Resources Department attended a meeting <br />with local church and school leaders on Thursday, September 16, 2010 to discuss <br />the effect of Issue 34 passing and how this department will work with the <br />community and coordinate outreach services. Several of the churches have <br />offered to help with demolition, landscaping and the community garden. As of <br />September 7, 2010 the City has saved $351,000 on Workers Compensation costs <br />for 2010 with a total savings of $839,000 since becoming self-insured. As of <br />today, health care costs are down $218,000 from 2009. Prescription costs are <br />down by $69,000 and the administrative fee is down $15,000. <br />• MAYOR'S OFFICE - On Saturday, September 11, 2010 in conjunction with <br />Wal-Mart, the City sponsored a day of community service to commemorate the <br />9`" anniversary of the September 11 attacks. The project focused on repainting <br />several of the city's fire hydrants, with the paint and supplies being funded <br />through a grant from Wal-Mart. Sunday September 19, 2010 was his first charity <br />event as Mayor - a Sk race and 1 mile walk /run. Over 100 adults and children <br />turned out to participate. The proceeds from this event will be donated to the <br />school's pay-to-participate program or to the school's Foundation Board. Repairs <br />need to be made to the steel support columns in the pool at the recreation center. <br />The specifications were completed today and have been sent to local contractors <br />for estimates. Repair work should begin within the next week or two. <br />• PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT - AT&T has deposited $2,000 into an <br />account for each cable box they have installed in the City for a total of $60,000. <br />The intent of these funds is to provide landscape screening and ongoing <br />maintenance. The RFP for this project will allow the City to select a contractor to <br />install the plantings and maintain them for a significant period of time. He <br />unveiled the new City logo as part of the community branding and gateway <br />signage project. The logo was created by Studio Graphique, with oversight from <br />a City branding committee comprised of staff and local community members. <br />The logo will be featured on new gateway signage and in future City publications. <br />Today was the grand opening of First Merit bank on Lorain Road. <br />Councilman Barker commented on the Day of Community Service and thanked some <br />more people that were involved.
