Council Minutes of 09-08-2010 <br /> <br />Saturday, September 25 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Residents can bring <br />unused or expired prescription medication to the North Olmsted Police <br />Department for safe disposal. <br />• SERVICE -The Waste Water Treatment Plant has received the new Vac truck, <br />which was purchased for $3,400 less than the price for a lesser model on the state <br />purchasing plan. Household Hazardous Waste Roundup runs through September <br />19' 2010. Drop off paint, pesticides, oil, antifreeze and other hazardous waste in <br />the service yard behind City Hall. Scrap tire roundup runs September 20, 2010 to <br />October 3, 2010. Tires can be dropped off in the service yard as well. The final <br />2010 citywide brush roundup begins September 13, 2010. Residents should have <br />brush ready on the tree lawns before Monday. Hydrant flushing will begin in <br />residential neighborhoods starting next week. Signs will be posted 24 hours in <br />advance. Residents are advised to run their water until it is completely clear. <br />• HUMAN RESOURCES -The fifth draft of the IAFF contract was provided to <br />the Union on July 27' 2010. As of this date, the city has not received a response. <br />The Pack Your Backpack with Care project, overseen by Chris Allegra, <br />distributed 72 backpacks with school supplies to needy families in North Olmsted. <br />This project was accomplished with the support of the North Olmsted Teacher's <br />Association, local churches, TJ Maxx and Wal-Mart. <br />• PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT -The newly constructed First Merit Bank <br />in now open for business. Across the street from this location, Ganley has <br />proceeded with site demolition for the Subaru dealership project. This week, <br />Wal-Mart began its review process through the Planning and Design Commission <br />and Board of Zoning Appeals for their proposed expansion into a superstore. <br />Also this week, the CDBG Citizens Advisory Committee will be making its <br />determination on a project submission for grant funding. The meeting is this <br />Thursday, September 10, 2010 at 5:30 p.m. in the caucus room. <br />• MAYOR'S OFFICE -The Recreation Department and Springvale presented <br />Council's Recreation Committee with YTD budgetary information, pending and <br />completed projects and a brief forecast as to what challenges are ahead for each <br />department in 2011. The Recreation Center has completed their summer <br />enrichment programs and is preparing for the start of swimming lessons and <br />increased activity at both the pool and rink. All arrangements for the use of North <br />Olmsted City School buildings for city basketball and volleyball leagues have <br />been resolved. The school district will continue to permit the city to use their <br />buildings as in years past regardless of the results of the November levy. The <br />city, in exchange, will continue to provide the district with the use of the pool and <br />the rink for all practices, games, meets and tournaments. Last week, while the <br />indoor pool was closed for normal painting and repairs, it was discovered that <br />several of the steel support columns in the pool room had corrosion holes through <br />the steel at their base. Bowen and Associates is preparing a scope of work to <br />correct the situation. Bowen estimates the work to cost approximately $ 19,000. <br />This Saturday, September 11 2010, has been declared a national day of <br />community service. The city, in conjunction with Wal-mart, will be sponsoring a <br />service project to finish painting the fire hydrants throughout the city.
