Council Minutes of 08-17-2010 <br /> <br />• The North Olmsted Senior Center was showcased on Channel 5 news last week. <br />They spotlighted the Mobile Farmers Market and the nutritional senior program. <br />The segment is still on Channel 5's website. <br />• Chris Allegra applied for and received a grant from the Cleveland Food Bank for <br />a freezer. It will be used at the new Food Pantry on Butternut Ridge. The North <br />Olmsted Community Council has generously purchased a new refrigerator for use <br />at the Community Cabin. <br />• The house fire at 6031 Louis on August 11 is still under investigation. The <br />damage estimates are $100,000 for the structure and $50,000 for the contents. No <br />residents were injured in the blaze. <br />• In the next few months, the Fire Department will be receiving fifteen 800 <br />megahertz portable radios and other items as part of an Interoperability Grant <br />awarded to Westcomm. The 20% match for this grant will be paid by the County. <br />No City money is required. <br />• NOPD will be awarded one of the thirteen Automated License Plate Readers <br />purchased by the City of Cleveland and Cuyahoga County as part of a grant they <br />received. At this time, there is no financial obligation to the City, with the <br />exception of having to provide a cruiser and MDT to install the unit in. <br />Additional units are being distributed to South Euclid, Beachwood, Brook Park <br />and Bedford. Previously, units were given to Cleveland Police, Cuyahoga County <br />Sheriff's Department, Lakewood, Parma, Shaker Heights, Euclid and Cleveland <br />Heights. <br />• The Director of Public Safety and the Fire Chief have completed their review of <br />the Fire District Study draft. Their recommendations will be forwarded to the <br />Mayor's office for review. <br />• Labor management meetings have been conducted with Police, Fire and <br />AFSCME Service units in the last two weeks. <br />• The brush pick-up program is running smoothly. The truck is going through the <br />City by ward. Residents can find the pick-up schedule on line at the City's <br />website. <br />• The Service Department is working on clearing the overgrowth at the bike path <br />that runs along I-480. <br />• Household Hazardous Waste will be collected at the Recycling Center behind <br />City Hall between September 6 and 19, 2010. <br />• Representative from the WWTP met with Hazen and Sawyer last week to get an <br />update on the design status and costs. <br />• The new Vector Truck is scheduled to be delivered on Monday, August, 16. <br />• Preparation for Homecoming is in progress with the majority of the duties <br />delegated to Service and Parks. On Friday, August 27, the City will be hosting an <br />event in the "big tent" during the Homecoming Festival between 6:00 p.m. and <br />_9:00 p.m. The theme is North Olmsted USO: Salute to Veterans. <br />• Along term capital project list for Springvale has been compiled by Mr. <br />Copeland. Council members should have received that information for review. <br />Improvements will be made in the years ahead as time and money permit. A <br />similar process is beginning at the Recreation Center. <br />• The security camera at the skate park is currently being installed. <br />2 <br />
