The market will take place every Tuesday afternoon from 12:00 p.m. until <br />2:45 p.m. from July through September in the North Olmsted Park behind the <br />basketball court. Everyone is invited to purchase fresh fruit, vegetables, honey, <br />herbs and more. All produce is locally grown and organic. <br />• The North Olmsted Senior Center and Springvale Golf Course are proud to <br />announce the first ever "Putting for Pancakes" event on Wednesday, July 28 at the <br />Senior Center. Enjoy free pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee. Representatives <br />from Springvale Golf Course will be hosting this event that is open to everyone. <br />There will be prizes for the best putting shot and golfing tips from a golf <br />professional. Please call the Senior Center to make a reservation. <br />• This past weekend was All-Scouts weekend celebrated in North Olmsted Park. <br />Several hundred scouts participated in the parade, flag raising ceremony and <br />planned events. <br />• Preparations are underway for the July 4 holiday including the annual bike parade <br />on July 3 and the NOSO Cup. There are several smaller projects in the parks that <br />should be completed prior to this tournament. <br />• The pier demolition at the Recreation Center was completed last week, giving <br />sufficient time to make final preparations to open the outdoor pool. <br />• Summer camp started on June 9. Enrollment is at 220 this year, up from 150 last <br />year. There has been a 25% increase in participants in baseball, softball and sand <br />volleyball this year. <br />• Relay for Life is scheduled for this Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20 at the <br />High School Track. <br />• There was a dedication ceremony earlier today for Major Rocco Barnes, a United <br />States Marine, who was raised in North Olmsted. Major Barnes was killed in <br />Afghanistan last summer. Two signs have been placed along Lorain Road <br />dedicating Route 10 within the city limits as the Major Rocco Barnes Memorial <br />Highway. <br />• The North Olmsted Police Department will be checking the current status of each <br />property listed as vacant on the property maintenance list within the next two <br />weeks. The officers will also make sure that each home is properly secured. <br />• The Civil Service lists for the positions of Sergeant and Lieutenant have been <br />certified. Promotions can be expected within the next month -Walter Novak to <br />Lieutenant and Robert Wagner to Sergeant. <br />• A car accident on I-480 westbound just east of Sterns caused the temporary <br />closing of the westbound entrance ramps to 480 on Friday, June 12. Life-Flight <br />transported one of the two individuals requiring medical attention. <br />• In early June, a building permit was pulled for the First Merit Bank project at <br />25755 Lorain Road with a projected construction value of $700,000. A building <br />permit for $110,000 work of alterations at 29063 Lorain Road was also issued. <br />Dollar General will be occupying the space when all of the alterations are <br />complete. <br />• The 2010 asphalt overlay on concrete streets contract has been signed by all <br />parties. The Safety Director and City Engineer will be proceeding with apre- <br />construction meeting within the next week. <br />• Poles for the driving range net at Springvale have been installed. <br />2 <br />
