The trash and debris was left in bags throughout the area and ODOT
is scheduled to pick them up.
• There have been recent articles pertaining to the rate structures and potential
increases for storm water management being considered by the Regional Sewer
District. Many people have inquired as to how this will impact North Olmsted
residents. Regional Sewer does not provide any service to North Olmsted and
representatives from this agency have indicated that their storm water
management program will have no impact on our residents. While the city will
begin looking at a long term program for storm water maintenance, the current
discussion is not applicable to North Olmsted.
• He presented a Proclamation The Cleaning Authority, a residential cleaning
company located in Westlake. The Cleaning Authority participates in a national
program called "Cleaning for aReason", anon-profit program that provides
housekeeping services free of charge to women who are undergoing cancer
treatment. He had the owner of The Cleaning Authority, Mike Fransko, come
forward for the Proclamation and he explained how people in North Olmsted may
be eligible for this service and how they can register.
Councilman Kearney asked the Mayor if he plans on rehiring a laid off fireman since a
Captain has recently retired. Mayor Kennedy said he ~ will be meeting with Safety
Director Ritenauer to look at their needs. The Westshore Fire District is being studied
right now, so it's important to be prudent to see how the Westshore Fire District plan
goes.
Law Director Gareau:
• He mentioned that the Karen Nakon Foundation is dedicated to raising money in
memory of Karen Nakon, and the money is provided to women in need to provide
for their utility bills, mortgage payments, etc. while they're undergoing treatment.
They probably have a long list of candidates who may be available to receive
those cleaning services.
• As a result of the Moratorium establishing Ordinance 2010-41 -the Moratorium
concerning cybercafes, game rooms and Internet sweepstakes facilities -one
applicant has withdrawn his application for a Certificate of Occupancy in the city
of North Olmsted. The Law Department and Planning Director will be looking
into reasonable land use controls for these particular uses in the city of North
Olmsted. With respect to the Surf Shop, the Building Department has conducted
an inspection and has issued orders relative to violations of the Building Code, the
Ohio Building Code and violations of the Zoning Code. Building Commissioner
Mitchell has requested compliance.
• The case of Ricardo Shaffer vs. the City of North Olmsted has been dismissed. It
was alleged that the city had used excessive force while removing Mr. Shaffer
from the jail after he posted bond and didn't want to leave.
3
