The Recreation Department's maintenance crew has been <br />concentrating on ball diamond preparation as the high school baseball and softball <br />season began last week. Two new water fountains have been ordered and are <br />scheduled to be installed in Clague Park by mid-April thanks to a generous <br />donation by the North Olmsted Hot Stove league. <br />• Officer Matthew Beck has been recalled from the 2008 lay-off and will return to <br />work with the N.O. Police Department on Monday, April 12. <br />• With the selection of Ramsey & Associates as the Civil Service testing firm hired <br />to write the police promotion exams, patrol officers will be studying for the <br />Sergeant's exam. Additionally, most of the current Sergeants have expressed an <br />interest in taking the Lieutenant's exam. <br />• The Fire Department responded to 13 requests for mutual aid in the month of <br />March with the aid equally distributed between Olmsted Township, Westlake and <br />North Ridgeville. In return, North Olmsted requested mutual aid 7 times during <br />the same period with Olmsted Township providing the majority of assistance. <br />• EMS runs continue to drop. There were 206 runs in March, down from 217 in <br />February and 245 in January. There has been a 16% drop in EMS runs from the <br />beginning of the year. There were no building fires to report for the month of <br />March. <br />• At the meeting of March 16, several residents from Northwood Condominiums <br />were in attendance. Safety Director Thomas met individually with one resident <br />and made several attempts to arrange a group meeting with all concerned <br />residents with the Building Commissioner and Building Inspector assigned to this <br />project. It is hoped that a meeting will take place this week. <br />• A traffic accident on April 2 destroyed a CEI utility pole at Great Northern Blvd. <br />and Lorain. CEI repaired the pole on the following day, closing traffic for several <br />hours. CEI intends on replacing the pole later this spring. <br />• Due to business and staffing changes within the company, the city is terminating <br />its contract for economic development services with Silverlode Consulting <br />Corporation this month. The administration is evaluating how to best move <br />forward to ensure these service needs continue to be met. <br />• The BOC approved a contract with Studio Graphique to provide graphic design <br />services in the development of a new city branding scheme that will be used in <br />gateway signage and future city facility signage. A public meeting will be <br />scheduled later in the month to solicit public feedback for this process. <br />• The Health Care Advisory Team, consisting of 14 employees, concluded their 6 <br />month review of the city's health care plans and made a recommendation to <br />promote wellness and education and to implement a flex savings plan. The <br />Committee did not recommend any changes to the current health care plan. <br />• The second Weight Watchers at Work program ended in November with a total <br />weight loss of 142 pounds. The current (3`d) at work program is going very well. <br />• In attendance tonight are several of the recent graduates of the Westshore <br />Community Emergency Response Team. CERT is a national volunteer <br />organization under Homeland Security. The Westshore CERT is the local team <br />and includes the cities of Bay Village, Fairview Park, Lakewood, North Olmsted, <br />Rocky River and Westlake.
