~ `` <br />~~ <br />Council Minutes of 03-02-2010 <br />• The City of North Olmsted entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with <br />.~.: <br />the Cuyahoga County Soil and Water District for a variety of classes and <br />~~ educational events promoting clean water. The first session was held Monday, <br />February 15, at the Rocky River Nature Center and featured abuild-you-own rain <br />barrel workshop. <br />• The new Esther Avenue sewer meter was recently installed. Unfortunately, it was <br />installed incorrectly, and corroded by water and made inoperable. The contractor <br />has agreed to replace and re-install the meter at no charge to the city. <br />• The snow event of February 24 through February 28 cost the city a total of <br />$62,000 for the twelve inches of snow that fell. The city used 840 tons of salt at a <br />cost of $37,000, and regular and overtime labor costs for that Friday, Saturday <br />and early Sunday morning were approximately $23,000. <br />• He will be hosting a business "Meet and Greet" at Springvale Thursday, March 4, <br />from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. The Mayor's economic development team will be there <br />along with County officials to discuss programs and incentives for local <br />businesses. <br />• The County's Storefront Renovation Rebate Program opens today. This provides <br />rebates of up to $8,000 to retail businesses who make eligible exterior property <br />improvements. Contact the Planning Department for more information. <br />• A Landmarks Commission speak series event is scheduled for Thursday, March <br />11, at 7:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Porter Road. Dale <br />Thomas will be making a photo illustrated presentation of local history up through <br />the Civil War era to include historic artifacts. Admission is free. <br />~ • The Lenten Fish Fry continues at Springvale every Friday through April 2 from 4 <br />p.m. to 9 p.m. Non-profit organizations acting as volunteer servers are booked <br />through the year and there are four organizations on the waiting list to participate <br />next year. Sales for the first two weeks are averaging about $1,100, and <br />attendance is good despite the poor weather. <br />• The weather was good for the first Cross Country Ski Race at Springvale this past <br />Saturday. The event was sponsored by the Ohio Nordic Ski Club. There were <br />forty-five participants, as well as probably twice that many in attendance ranging <br />in age from 8 - 74 years old. They raced around apre-set course for an hour. <br />They plan to make this an annual event and hope to expand the cross country <br />course for next year. <br />• There will be a Community Life Services Advisory Board meeting on Thursday, <br />March 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the caucus Room. <br />• On February 26, AFSCME Clerical Technical ratified their labor contract. He <br />thanked this bargaining unit for acknowledging the city's economic circumstances <br />and doing their part to help. So far, six of the seven unions have granted <br />concessions to help balance the budget in 2010. The only remaining union not to <br />have done so is the IAFF. <br />• The Health Care Advisory Team has been meeting for the last five months. The <br />committee was formed during the last negotiating cycle and consists of fourteen <br />employees. They are obligated to review the current health care plan and make <br />recommendations to contain costs and minimize employee contributions. If the <br />: committee makes a recommendation, it will be forwarded to the administration <br />2 <br />
