f
Council Minutes of 02-16-10
terminated. Initial reports indicate that there's a smooth transition taking place.
Permit activity within the Building Department remains to be down.
• A draft of the Fire District Consolidation Report (Section 1) has been sent to each
city for review and proofing. Corrections are due to ESCI by February 22. Once
the draft report of Section 1 is corrected for factual information about each city
and department, public meetings will be scheduled. The draft report does not
include recommendations or suggestions; those items will be included in a later
section of the report. The Fire Chief and Safety Director are proofing and editing
the document right now.
• The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has decided that no additional H1N1 pods
will be opened for the duration of the winter flu season. Enough vaccination is
available to accommodate through private practitioners and various clinics
scheduled around the County. H1N1 flu shots will be available at the IX Center
during the Home and Flower Show.
• Fifty-four CERT volunteers representing the west shore area are in training for the
next four Saturdays. Training is taking place at the Westlake Service Center on
Bassett Road.
• The Esther Avenue sewer meter has been installed. The old meter was over 50
years old and was responsible for measuring sewer flow in Ward V of Fairview
Park. The new meter will more accurately measure sewer flow that is treated at
the North Olmsted plant. Negotiations between Fairview Park and North Olmsted
over the new sewer agreement have been requested.
• The snow event of February 5 and the 11 brought over 8 inches of snow to North
Olmsted. The cost was $77,000 to clear. Expenses for salt were approximately
$50,000 while labor accounted for nearly $24,000.
• The study of the traffic safety signal system will be undertaken by URS
Corporation. Once completed, the study will be used to secure federal and state
funding to update the traffic signal system.
• Gasoline and diesel fuel bids were received February 12.
• The city was successful in its application for the Community Recycling
Awareness Grant from the County Solid Waste District. The city will be awarded
$2,750 for the new recycling signs at City Hall complex.
• A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, February 24 at 6:30p.m. in Council
Chambers to solicit input on the Cuyahoga County Parks and Playground grant.
The city is eligible to apply for up to $ 40,000 for parks, playgrounds, trails and
other community gardens.
• The Cuyahoga County Department of Development will be offering its Storefront
Renovation Rebate Program again in 2010. North Olmsted businesses are eligible
to apply for funds to correct exterior code violations, make improvements and
install new signage. Grant applications will be available March 1.
• The City is sponsoring its Fish Fry event at Springvale starting this Friday. It will
be every Friday until Apri12 from 4p.m. to 9p.m.
2
~~.
