Council Minutes of 01-19-10 <br /> <br />employees: Cullen Mixon and Conor O'Shea. They are going to be working in <br />the Wastewater Treatment Plant. <br />• The Fact-finder's decision regarding the IAFF contract has yet to be received. It <br />is expected this sometime this week. <br />• During the snow fall from January 1 - 13, the Service Department employees <br />plowed and salted the streets for ten days within this two week period. The total <br />cost of snow removal was $118,214 which includes fuel, salt, calcium chloride, <br />brine and labor. Only 28% of the labor costs were attributed to overtime as the <br />majority of work was performed during regular shift hours. City vehicles <br />traversed a total of 7,757 miles costing $ 2,327 in fuel; used 1,173 tons of salt, <br />765 gallons of calcium and 230 gallons of brine. Future snow events will also be <br />tracked according to these categories. Overall, citizen response to snow removal <br />was very positive and the Department received many more complimentary <br />telephone calls than complaints. They will continue to work to make the system <br />even better. From the contributions of Dr. Thomas to the Service employees, they <br />did a great job. Some of the complaints were about mailboxes being knocked <br />down, which are fixed by the city. <br />• The contractor for the Dover Center Road asphalt project, Burton Scott, received <br />the Quality Paving Award from Flexible Pavements of Ohio. The contractor will <br />be honored at a banquet and awards ceremony in February in Cincinnati. The city <br />is allowed one representative to attend. <br />• New copy machines will be delivered to various municipal locations this <br />Thursday. Toshiba Business Solutions was the successful bidder on the contract. <br />Training for personnel will begin on Friday. <br />• The Service Department is working with the Recreation Department on removal <br />of scrap behind the Recreation Center. <br />• The final phase of the restroom remodeling project has begun on the 2°d floor of <br />City Hall. <br />• Police and fire personnel met with officials at the Wastewater Treatment Plant to <br />review the new staffing schedule. Training is taking place so that police and fire <br />crews are familiar with the treatment plant. On the advice of emergency <br />personnel, strobe lights and other safety equipment should be installed before <br />changes take place. <br />• President Obama will be visiting Lorain Community College on Friday, January <br />22. Police Chief Wayne Wozniak met with Secret Service officials and others to <br />plan for the President's route. The President will be traveling through North <br />Olmsted; he will not be making a stop. The Police Department will be assisting in <br />traffic control for this event. <br />• Planning for this year's Safety Town has begun. Tentative dates for the program <br />are the weeks of June 14 and June 21. <br />• School Resource Officer Jim Carbone helped North Olmsted High School <br />students raise over $ 5,000 in this year's Day-of-Giving event held the last day of <br />school before winter vacation. Officer Carbone was instrumental in planning the <br />mock-tailgate party as well as organizing other events for charity. The money <br />was used to help local families with gifts and clothing. <br />2 <br /> <br />
