About two weeks prior the
company that striped the edges of the street tarred the end of the street where the aprons
are. Then work began on Allendale and continued on Lambert's side of the street. They
are taking reclaimed asphalt from some other project and they are putting it down. He
gave a sample to Council and already gave one to the Mayor. What they've done is taken
this reclaimed asphalt and re-spread it for the burm of the street - and a lot of it. They
have a big truck with a feeder that lays it down, and then they have a guy with a street
sweeper that follows him. Then a guy with ahand-powered gasoline tamper tamps it
down. It is right at the edge of the road and it goes on exactly like that and you can lift it
back off with your fingers. He called his Councilman today, and Councilman Orlowski
came out in an hour and a half and walked the street. When he stepped out onto the
freshly tamped asphalt, he sunk into it. He doesn't know whether the city paid extra to
have the burm done. All he knows is he talked to one of the people working on the crew.
They are not politicians and do not make excuses. He asked if this is going to last. The
guy on the crew said he didn't know. It rained and where they worked last week the
asphalt is still there. Lambert said obviously the asphalt hasn't been through a snow
storm or anything else. Then the member of the crew said they are doing what they're
told and the City Engineer wants it done this way. Lambert said to Councilman Barker
now for your benefit in case there isn't anything you understand to the point I'm trying to
4
