.
Council Minutes of 08-16-2011
• The Recreation Center is in the process of working with the roof and
dehumidification companies to make the capital improvements to the pool area.
This upgrade needs to be completed by November in order to accommodate the
swim team schedule.
• As a reminder, Homecoming is scheduled for August 25 - 28. The opening
ceremony will be Thursday, the 25th at 6:OOp.m., and will begin with a
proclamation to the North Olmsted Citizen of the Year, Paul Schumann. The city
will again be sponsoring a tent and will be having a salute to our local Veterans.
The parade will be Sunday the 28th at 1:00 p.m.
• The city will also be holding another community Shred-it on Saturday, August 27,
2011 from 9:00 a.m. noon. Due to homecoming and the construction on the city
hall parking lot, this will be held in the Recreation Center parking lot. Residents
can bring up to two boxes of personal paperwork and watch while it is shredded.
Proof of residency, such as a utility bill, is required.
• The city has hired three new laborers in an effort to focus on storm system work.
They are Shaun Solomon, Sam Toich and Jack Grasso.
• Storm and sanitary trucks continue to vacuum and jet the storm and sanitary
sewers. With the county's assistance, they are covering more area and are better
able to respond to citizen calls for service. Additionally, both short and long term
projects are being identified for work in the storm system. These projects include
repair, replacement and detention.
• The fire department responded to a house fire on Birch Lane on Sunday, August
7, 2011. The fire is believed to have started in the living room and went through
the attic, breaking through the roof. While still under investigation, the cause
does appear to be accidental. The damage estimate is $ 150,000.
• In recognition of the lOt" anniversary of the September l lt" attacks, a memorial
ceremony will be held at Fire Station 1 on Sunday, September 11 at 9:30 a.m. We
have received direction from Washington DC on the order of the memorial
service and will update you as we receive further instruction.
Director of Law Gareau:
• No report.
Director of Finance Copfer:
• She received notice that the Auditor of State has reviewed the audit report for the
fiscal year ending 2010 and has accepted it as filed. It should be released this
week and will be placed on the city website and the Auditor of State website.
• She worked with the sewer consultant last week revising and extending the rate
study through 2019 so that the rate increase will be set that will adequately fund
the required improvements to be in compliance with EPA specifications.
• The June 30th month end report -both summary and detail -were sent out that
afternoon.
• She received the 2012 local government estimate from the County of
$659,214.00. This represents a 25% reduction from 2010 for January through
2
