Council Minutes of OS-03-2011 <br /> <br />• The city received notice last week that the Federal Government will again be <br />accepting applications for COPS grants. <br />• Interviews for the position of Assistant Superintendent at the Waste Water <br />Treatment Plant were completed last week. The position has been offered to <br />CarrieAnne Rosemark who currently holds a comparable position with the City of <br />Oberlin. <br />• For the last month, nearly every department in the city's Administration has been <br />handling calls regarding flooding of yards, basements and streets. Waste Water <br />and Service Department employees have worked non-stop to handle these calls. <br />• Earlier today, he met with employees from Waste Water, Service and the <br />Administration to discuss the specifics of implementing a plan to prevent as many <br />of these flooding situations as possible. It is important to realize that while no <br />municipality can totally prevent flooding in every situation, he believes that there <br />are some steps the city can take to mitigate water coming into basements and <br />causing property damage. <br />• The capital improvement project for the plant and the collection system are <br />obviously going to offer some relief. In the months ahead, he will present a <br />maintenance plan for our storm water system that specifically outlines the work <br />we will be doing. <br />• The City of North Olmsted was successful in its grant application for the NOPEC <br />Powering Our Communities Program thanks to Planning/Development Director <br />Wenger. The city was awarded nearly $ 270,000 for HVAC, lighting and window <br />replacement at City Hall, the Senior Center and Community Cabin. <br />• The bid opening for the 2011 Street Program including road resurfacing, crack <br />sealing, and pavement marking is this Thursday at noon. <br />• The construction at the future Oxcart Pantry is anticipated to be complete by the <br />end of the month. Many thanks to the volunteers who have contributed their <br />efforts in painting, flooring and other work on the site. <br />• The Frostville Market debuts this Saturday, May 7, 2011 starting at 9 a.m. at the <br />Frostville Museum in the Metroparks. This will be a weekly event through <br />October. A wide variety of produce will be available in addition to cooking <br />demonstrations, musical performances and much more. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• A significant portion of Cinnamon Woods was annexed into the City of North <br />Olmsted which moved the city lines and not the school district lines. Residents at <br />that time petitioned to have themselves incorporated into the North Olmsted <br />School District, which was unsuccessful. Voting on the Olmsted Falls school <br />levy took place today for Ward 3 Precinct D which is this area of the City of <br />North Olmsted. <br />• He congratulated the new Chief of Police, Jamie Gallagher. He wished Al <br />Herman well in his retirement from the Service Dept. <br />• He attended a seminar last Friday on civil issues and municipal law. <br />• On Thursday he met with the FOP representative, Human Resources Director <br />Farver and Chief Wozniak to discuss and resolve an outstanding labor issue. <br />2 <br />___ .V.,_..._~....~,.s. ,...... _ ~ .....,, , ,,, <br />
