Council Minutes of 04-19-2011 <br /> <br />• At approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2011 a 22 year-old male was <br />run over in the roadway. He suffered extensive injuries and was pronounced dead <br />at the scene. <br />• On the same day, two males fishing in the Rocky River were stranded in a large <br />tree in the river when the water level rose suddenly. The technical rescue team <br />from Southeastern Regional was called in to assist. The men were both safety <br />placed in rescue boats and brought to shore. <br />• The Police Chief is applying for the SRO Drug Awareness Grant if approved by <br />Council this evening. <br />• The first quarter report from the police dept. comparing 2010 to 2011 has been <br />compiled and reflects a decrease in traffic accidents, warning tickets, parking <br />tickets, burglaries, shoplifting, criminal damaging and overall arrests. Traffic <br />tickets, DUI's, drug investigations, fraud and stop citations have all increased. <br />All other measured activities reflect little or no change as compared to the first <br />quarter of last year. <br />• The Spring Household Hazardous Waste Round Up began April 18, 2011 and <br />runs through May 1, 2011. Residents can drop off items for free at not charge at <br />the Service Yard at 5200 Dover Center Road. Items accepted include paint, paint- <br />related items, pesticides, household cleaners, automotive products, motor oil, <br />mercury, gasoline, kerosene, batteries and bulbs. <br />• Bids were open last week for the Lucydale sanitary replacement and Springvale <br />parking lot resurfacing projects. The city is currently advertising for receipt of <br />bids for cracksealing, pavement markings, asphalt recycling and asphalt overlay. <br />• The Cuyahoga County Board of Health completed a mosquito larvae treatment at <br />Bradley Woods and several other problematic locations. <br />• Road Foreman, Al Herman, and WWTP Superintendent, Sharon Schlemmer, <br />work their last day as of Friday, April 15, 2011. He thanked them for their hard <br />work and dedication to the City of North Olmsted. <br />• Brush chipping schedule postcards are scheduled to be mailed to households this <br />week. Curbside brush pick-up is scheduled to begin on May 2, 2011. <br />• The Civil Service Commission scheduled an oral examination for the position of <br />Police Chief for Friday, Apri122, 2011. Four candidates are participating and the <br />results should be ready next week. <br />• An agreement has been reached with the FOP reducing the number of furlough <br />days to 7 in 2011. The original labor contract was for 13 furlough days for both <br />2010 and 2011. <br />• The .city will be interviewing for the WWTP Assistant Superintendent position <br />this week. Mr. Brian Blum, hired April 15, 2011, is the new WWTP <br />Superintendent. <br />• The city received a Certified Local Government Grant for $9,000 to conduct a <br />historic survey update along Butternut Ridge Road. <br />• The Recreation Dept. will be holding their first ever Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, <br />April 23, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. in North Olmsted Park. There are already 175 <br />children registered to participate. <br />• Improvements are being made within the Recreation Center. New lights are being <br />installed in the concession area, ceiling tiles are being replaced and there will be <br />2 <br />., :._ <br />
