Council Minutes of 03-15-2011
future answers to a number of questions and a request to establish programs
within the City which are more proactive to prevent and/or lessen flooding in the
City. At the minimum, the Administration should annually check the condition of
the waterways within the City. Several members of the Administration, residents
and Council Members offered input on the flooding of Monday February 28,
2011. On March 10, 2011 I accompanied the City Engineer on a visual inspection
of several streets in Ward 4. We also reviewed several waterways which flow
through Ward 3 and Ward 4. The waterways had receded somewhat from the
previous week, even though it was raining, the condition of the waterways was
visible. The City Engineer took pictures of several areas which were collecting a
sizeable amount of debris from the last storm. The waterways north and south of
I-480 converge together at Fitch Road placing a large quantity of water at one
location. Within a couple of weeks I will convoke a second meeting for the
Administration to respond, hopefully with programs to address and lessen the
flooding problems. As the Ward Four Councilman my research has centered on
Ward 3 and 4. I hope the Administration and Council can offer programs which
include the entire City. The meeting was adjourned at 9:00 p.m.
Councilman Mahoney, Chairman of the Building, Zoning & Development Committee:
The BZD Committee met Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Present were committee
members Mahoney and Barker; Council President Limpert; members of Council; Mayor
Kennedy; Safety/Service Director Ritenauer; Planning Development Director; and
Finance Director Copfer.
• CMS11-03 Five Below located at 25931 Great Northern Shopping Center. This
proposal consists of a facade renovation for a new retail store in Great Northern
Shopping Center. Five Below will be taking over two vacant retail spaces. The
committee voted 2-0 to recommend approval of CMS11-03 Five Below.
Councilman Mahoney made a motion to approve CMS 11-03 Five Below located at
25931 Great Northern Shopping Center. The motion was seconded by Councilman
Barker and passed unanimously. CMS11-03 Five Below approved.
• Discussed next was Ordinance 2011-27 which is an Ordinance authorizing the
Director of Planning and Development to solicit bids for the demolition and
removal of dangerous buildings located at 5430 Sunset Oval as a public nuisance;
and further authorizing the costs to be certified as a tax lien upon said real
property pursuant to Section 1331.05 of the Codified Ordinances, and declaring
an emergency. The committee voted 2-0 to recommend approval of Ordinance
2011-27.
Councilman Kearney, Chairman of the Recreation, Public Parks & Buildings Committee:
9
