Council Minutes of 04-16-2013
Council President Jones asked Mayor Kennedy if he is planning on informing those
residents, who do not have access to the Internet, about the garbage strike. Mayor
Kennedy said yes they are planning on informing residents but it changes daily, so
residents can call his office.
Director of Law Gareau:
• April is Fair Housing Month in North Olmsted. Last May, the city was a recipient
of a grant from Housing and Urban Development which was to be used to
increase awareness of fair housing initiatives and laws in North Olmsted as it
concerns the city's Muslim and Arab population. This is a growing minority in
Northeast Ohio, and the city felt that this is a good area to work in for a segment
of the city's population which is traditionally underserved in initiatives of that
type. The results of a discrimination initiative will be discussed at the North
Olmsted Library on April 18`f' at 7:00 p.m.
• In the case of Megan Frenz vs. Springvale Golf Course and Ballroom, this has
been resolved and dismissed by insurance defense counsel.
• The city is in a negotiation phase with Fairview Park and Olmsted Township.
The city's WWTP serves a segment of both communities. There was a rate
adjustment for the users of North Olmsted last year. The city's agreement with
these communities needs to be amended to reflect any changes that result from
negotiations.
Director of Finance Copfer
• She has been invited to join the Auditor of State's Regional Advisory Board. The
first meeting was April 11 ~'. They talked about some changes including
compliance supplements, making audits more efficient and some ideas to
encourage collaboration between communities and school districts.
• She reviewed the RFQs for the top three architects for the Recreation fitness area
and front desk. The interviews are starting later this week.
• The Fire Chief notified her that they received another extension on the SAFER
grant for the firefighters.
Councilman Barker, Chairman of the Finance Committee:
The Finance Committee met Tuesday, April 9, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. Present were
committee members Barker, Schumann and Kearney; Council President Jones; Council
member Orlowski; Mayor Kennedy, Finance Director Copfer and Planning/Development
Director Wenger.
• Discussed was Resolution 2013-38 which is a renewal request to keep MB3, Greg
Myers, on as the city's economic development consultant as he has been with the
city since 2008 when he was with the firm of Silverlode and then his own firm
since 2010. The RFP process would have the city go out for bids, and the
Administration feels as I do that MB3 has been a good fit and knows our
community well. Mr. Myers is on an hourly basis ($150.00) as well as taking care
of an available property data base at a rate of $70.00 per month. Mr. Barker
2
e -
