A
similar situation occurred on Vita Lane, but employees were able to determine the
source and address that with the homeowner.
• Last week, a water main break occurred in the 24000 block of LeBern. This
water break coupled with a collapsed sewer lateral resulted in nine inches of water
in the basement of a residential property. The water line and sewer line have been
repaired. Street repairs are pending the final signing-off of the Cleveland
Division of Water.
• Mr. James Reynolds with be starting with the City on February 13, 2012 in the
Building Dept. as the Asst Building Commissioner. Mr. Reynolds comes to the
City with 20 years of municipal service as a building, electrical, zoning and
property maintenance inspector. Also joining the City on that date will be Mr.
Thomas Rini as the Secretary of Service. Mr. Rini has a degree in Criminal
Justice and Sociology and served two tours in Iraq.
• The City met with ODOT representatives last week to discover various traffic and
safety studies. ODOT has assigned a task under consultant to conduct analysis of
Great Northern Blvd. Corridor to follow up with NOACA's road safety audit.
~,,, This is the next step in the process before the City applies for and receives safety
funds for the identified improvements. This study was conducted at no cost to the
City.
Director of Law Gareau:
• The city has been named in a lawsuit in an action setting forth a claim for
damages from the City of North Olmsted arising from flooding occurring on two
occasions in the year 2011. There is a claim to certify this matter as a class action
lawsuit. This case has been forwarded to the city's insurance carrier and is being
handled by the insurance company and insurance defense counsel at this time.
• In terms of cases pending in any stage of the enforcement process for property
maintenance, there are 40 cases currently within the Law Dept. with most of them
coming in at the end of 2011. He met with the Planning/Development Director,
City Engineer and Building Commissioner on January 30, 2012 to strategize on
property maintenance enforcement.
