.~ <br />.. <br />Council Minutes of 01-03-2012 <br />The fires the city did experience caused over a million dollazs in damages. This <br />"' represents the largest property loss in ter. years. Most importantly, there were no <br />°~~ <br />injuries. <br />• Republic Waste has provided the third quarter report compazing 2010 to 2011. <br />Under the new automated system, the city's recycling has dramatically improved. <br />In the month of July, 112 tons were recycled in 2010 and 251 tons were recycled <br />in July of 2011. In August 2010, 93 tons were recycled while 252 tons were <br />recycled in August 2011. <br />• The Recreation Center held their second annual New Year's Eve party this past <br />weekend. Over 250 people attended. <br />• During 2012, the City of North Olmsted will be the host city of the West Shore <br />Council of Governments meetings. These meetings aze scheduled for the second <br />Wednesday of the month at 9:30 a.m. in the Caucus room. <br />• On Thursday, January 19 at 11:00 a.m. he will deliver the annual State of the City <br />address. This event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and will be held <br />at the Radisson. <br />Director of Law Gareau: <br />• He recognized the Building Department and Planning/Development Director Kim <br />Wenger on the issue of property maintenance enforcement. There has been an <br />increase in the number of referrals to the Law Dept. which is a good thing because <br />they aze reinforcing it. There were 9 new referrals since his last report. Three of <br />those resulted in immediate charges and there were 5 warning letters. <br />• Negotiations are moving along as well as can be expected. <br />Director of Finance Copfer: <br />• There was over a million dollars in Estate Tax for 2011, which is the highest <br />collection of Estate Tax since she has seen since she has been working for the <br />City. In December, the city ended up 1.15% over plan which was last year's <br />actual for Income Tax collection. <br />• They received notification from the Government Finance Officers Association <br />that the city's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for December 31, 2010 <br />that they received a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial <br />reporting. That is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and <br />financial reporting, and it represents a significant accomplishment by the City of <br />North Olmsted and all managers. <br />Councilman Barker, Chairman of the Finance Committee: <br />The Finance Committee met Tuesday, Januazy 3, 2012 at 7:18 p.m. Present were <br />committee members Barker, Kearney and Schumann; Council President Limpert; Council <br />~,._ members Brossazd, Orlowski and Williamson; Mayor Kennedy, Finance Director Copfer <br />`=~,., and Safety/Service Director Thomas. <br />2 <br />,A,~, ,~„~,.~o..m~._ .. <br />
