Council Minutes of 02-19-2013
Now therefore I, Kevin M. Kennedy, Mayor of the City of North Olmsted, on behalf of our
entire community, do hereby recognize with honor, Duane Keith Limpert, and congratulate
and commend him for his faithful and dedicated service to our community.
Council President Jones thanked Limpert for his years of service to the City of North Olmsted.
• Fish Fry sales Friday night were the best to date. Gratuity went to St. Brendan
School.
• The fourth annual Mayor's Business Meet and Greet will be held on Thursday,
February 28 beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Springvale Club House. All members
of the business community are welcomed to attend, network and learn more about
area economic development programs and opportunities.
• The North Olmsted fire Department responded to a fire call at the Victoria Plaza
Apartments, at approximately 10 p.m. on February 14, 2013. First arriving crews
were greeted with flames lapping up the north side of the building, from a
window on the twelfth floor. Command was immediately established and crews
were ordered to the 10th floor to prepare for an attack on the fire from the adjacent
stairwell. A mutual aid box alarm was sounded with units from Fairview Park,
Westlake, Olmsted Twp., Rocky River, Bay Village and North Ridgeville
responding. There were no civilian injuries reported, and one fire fighter from
North Olmsted was transported to the hospital with a knee injury.
Director of Law Gareau:
~"'- • He commended Limpert and his family.
~°~~° • The court in Eugene Dzambasow vs. Brian Bielozer conducted a settlement
conference this morning in Youngstown that he attended from 7:30 a.m. unti13:30
p.m. on behalf of the city of North Olmsted. Last week the court granted
summary judgment in favor of the city; on all of the Plaintiffs claims, the city
was found to be not liable under theories of recovery. However one remaining
claim existed following that ruling -the excessive use of force claim against
Officer Bielozer by Mr. Dzambasow. At today's settlement conference, the
remaining claim against Officer Bielozer was settled by insurance defense
counsel, with the city's insurance policy contributing funds to settle that case.
This civil matter is now concluded.
• On March 27, 2013, they will be proceeding with an arbitration hearing schedule
with respect to an officer in the City of North Olmsted Police Dept. concerning
discipline - a 30 consecutive day suspension.
Director of Finance Copfer
• The city had a Munis representative on site for three days last week for work
orders.
• House Bill 601 (Municipal Income Tax Reform) died at the end of 2012, and
there is a new Bill called House Bill 5 that is taking its place. RITA is reviewing
the impact that HBS will have on each municipality.
.~.,.
:~::.
3
