Council Minutes of 9/19195
that, given the parameters that the county has right now, no extension of Route 252, they
had come up with the best alternative possible. However, the city is looking for a
solution that will solve the traffic problem with the least possible disruption to ruts.
Mrs. Saringer stated that she had requested the Law Department draw up legislation
asking the county to reconsider the proposed Claque Road project. However, die has had
difficulty obtaining details and technical information for inclusion in the leition. She
suggested that a letter from Council to County Engineer Neff might be sufficient. Mr.
Frindt indicated that he and his n ' ors would be grateful for the support. Mr. Miller
said his position on the Claque Road plan is that we not abandon the av funding for
this project. However, he feels that the chy should use it for the bettei~iit of the
community and the ruts in that area, which would include improvh€ig the sewers,
putting in curbs, slightly wide~g and slightly correcting the curve without losing homes
and upsetting residents' lives. Also, Mr. ll~ller feels that truck traffic should be prohed
on Claque Road. Mr. McKay asked Mayor Boyle to clarify the benefits to the residents
of North Olmsted of extending Route 252. Mayor Boyle said that the extension of Route
252 would take truck traffic off of Claque Road, take other traffic off of Chigue Road and
Brookpark Road and elim~ate the need to take approximately 11 homes on Cl~tgue Road.
In addition, he feels that it would mate the safety problem at Coda and I,orasi and
Great Northern and Lorain. Mr. Mc1~ay said he felt the pLn would bring more traffic hito
an area that is already overridd~i with traffic. Mayor Boyle does not feel tra#£ic will be
hued here--the traffic is cominig and we mast be prepared to handle it when it arrives.
Had this been planned properly fifty years ago, Claque Road would not be a problem
today. North Olmsted is a deviation paint for residents fi om seven counties. The traffic
is going to continue to build, suet we mud plan to accommodate the future. The planned
signalization of traffic signals will help with the current stacking problems. The Mayor
and Mr. McKay agreed that the I-480 ramps at the hitersection of Great Northern
Boulevard and Country Club Boulevard will have to enlarged. The Mayor said that the
extension of Route 252 will not be the "cure-all to end-all" but it would be a move in the
right direction. Mrs. Saringer moved that a letter be sent to the county and State officials
indicating Council's disapproval of the proposed Claque Road plan and asking for
reconsideration of the extension of Route 252. The motion was seconded by Mr. Lind.
After a lengthy discussion, Mrs. Saringer withdrew the motion as Council. decided to
further discuss the issue at a Council-as-a-Whole Comwittee meeting to be held at 8 p.m
on Monday, September 25.
Rini Martin, 5 712 Allendale, said that recent storms had caused a lake to form in her
backyard. However, Mr. Bohhnann had followed through with the placement of a pump
and she thanked him for that and asked whether the pump would be available until the
problem is solved. Mayor Boyle said that the city would provide a pump whenever a
storm is expected.
Paul Lorenzon, 28856 Hampton Drive, also spoke about flooding problems and asked if
pump s would be available for the Forest Ridge area.. Mr. Lorenzon suggested, wh~i the
city goes out to bid on engitieeriag services, that Water Resources and Coastal
Engineering be asked to bid. Mayor Boyle said the administration would mve~igate and
6
