Through the efforts of these
city departments, the Cleveland Habitat for Humanities actually changed their board policy
to include the development of projects in the suburbs. Also, the Human Resources
Department made the family aware of the possibility of a $25,000 low-interest loan from
the county and also found more potential assistance from the FAMICOS agency and the
Office of Homeless Services.
2) Beginning this month and running through November, Cleveland Hopkins Airport will
be working on phase two of its runway renovation. Although provisions have been made
to fan out the air traffic and to decrease the intensity over any one area, residents will be
experiencing more airplane noise. Complaints should be directed to the airport by calling
265-3772.
3) Homestead Exemptions on property taxes for senior citizens are offered through the
Cuyahoga County Auditor. Applications, which must be completed by June 5, can be
obtained through the North Olmsted Senior Center. The requirements for the exemption
are as follows: resident must be 65 years of age or between 59 and 65 and the surviving
spouse of a Homestead Exemption recipient; resident must own the home; income must
not exceed $16,500. Exemptions are also available for disabled individuals. Information
is available through the Senior Center or County Auditor's office.
4) A task force has been formed to site and perform preliminary plans for a new North
Olmsted Municipal Bus Lme Garage. Members of the committee are as follows: Service
Director Bohlmann, NOMBL Manager Ken Mues, City Engineer Paul Deichmann,
GCRTA Director of Operations and Plamiing Mike York, GCRTA Director of
Maintenance Facilities Les Varga, GCRTA Performance Supervisor Art Lyons. Because
of their expertise in various areas the following city employees will also be added to the
committee: Law Director Michael Gareau, Administrative Assistant Nancy Wlodarski,
Building Commissioner Dave Conway, NOMBL Operations Manager Tom Terbrack.
Council will be kept informed of the committee's progress.
5) The Multiple Sclerosis Society will hold a benefit walk on April 23. MS is a very
serious, debilitating disease that strikes people in their twenties and thirties. The Mayor
and several city employees will participate in the MS walk, and anyone who wants to
contribute can contact the Mayor's office.
~~.
,~~,,
3
