The city traffic engineer has made some adjustments to the timing of
the signals to help move the traffic along and to allow easier exit for the Revere Drive
residents onto Butternut Ridge. It is hoped that the completion of the signalization
system, which should occur in six to eight weeks, will alleviate these and other traffic
problems within the city.
Mr. Limpert, Chairperson of the Transportation Committee: 1) As Mr. Nashar reported,
the new traffic lights are starting to be activated. Hopefully, the installation of the loops
will make a difference in traffic movement.
2) He has talked with the Service Director about the flood abatement program for the
Forest Ridge Development. Mr. Bohlmann will prepare an item for the development's
newsletter so the residents will be informed as to the plans.
3) In response to a previous request by Mrs. Saringer who will be attending the National
League of Cities conference in San Antonio, Mr. Limpert suggested several seminar topics
that would be of interest to him: recreation centers; community policing; ambulance
rotation. He looks forward to her report on these items and other seminars which she will
attend.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION
Tim Bolda, 5057 Evergreen Drive, a North Olmsted High School student, asked if the city
could help the Environmental Club with paper recycling. The club has stopped recycling
because the company that was taking the paper began charging too much. Mayor Boyle
commented that the city recycled paper, and it is included in the BFI contract. He is
surprised that the schools do not have a similar provision with their waste hauler. He will
check with BFI to see if some arrangement can be made or if they can suggest a company
with more reasonable fees. Mr. Limpert offered to check into the recycling company used
by his employer.
Robert Frindt, 4084 Claque Road, spoke about the proposed widening of Claque Road.
He has heard that Westlake has dropped its opposition to the widening of Columbia Road,
and they have $5.7 million to widen Columbia Road from I-90 to Hilliard. He asked the
Mayor whether North Olmsted would try to coordinate with Westlake in the Columbia
Road widening rather than concentrating on Claque Road. Mayor Boyle replied that what
is occurring is the widening of Columbia Road within Westlake and did not include what
North Olmsted had been concerned with which is the continuation of Rt. 252 up to Great
Northern Boulevard. The city continues to work for this project, and he believes that the
continuation of Rt. 252 would better serve the city than the Claque Road widening. With
regard to the Claque Road project, Mr. Frindt said he had understood that a formal
request would be made for Issue 2 monies for a Claque Road plan that would include a
two-lane road and drainage improvements. He asked if this had been done. Also, he said
that the residents had asked that the request not only come from the Service Director's
office but be endorsed by Council. Mayor Boyle said he was uncertain as to when the
Issue 2 application was due. However, all applications are reviewed by Council. Since he
' did not have the paperwork in front of him, he was not sure what was on the application.
3
~.
